Organizing becomes significantly easier when you eliminate many of the things that you need to organize. After doing this, you can save time by organizing your life in a systematic way so that you can build habits. Over time, you will immediately remember where you keep your pans and your letter opener. You can also rely on different products to help jog your memory.
Storage
Keep all possessions in places where you will most likely use these possessions for easy organizing. Assign specific places for these objects so that you always know where they are. Get rid of things that you think you’ll never use again. Use baskets and containers to store various objects, since these objects will not fall on the floor or behind furniture and you can easily retrieve them. If you’re limited on space, you can put stuff on top of the microwave, the refrigerator or on a bookshelf.
Clean As You Go
Clean up as you go. If your task requires that you put everything away and perform maintenance afterward, do not put off these tasks. Pick things up and put them away after you’re done. This works especially well if you clean while cooking, since cooking often involves standing around, waiting for something to finish.
Newspaper Clutter
Reduce newspapers by cutting out articles that you want to save and throwing the rest of the newspaper away. Do not subscribe to newspapers if you don’t have time to read them, instead narrowing your subscriptions down to your two favorite newspapers. You might as well throw away the oldest newspapers, since they’re less likely to contain relevant news.
Possession Sorting
Sort objects by how often you use them. Move objects that you use the most to the front in places where they’re the most in reach. Move objects that you only use occasionally and backup products farther out of reach. Put objects that you almost never use but still want to keep far out of reach. Then you can quickly grab the things you need day to day. Try to move similar things together so that you can quickly find them. Everyone has a junk drawer, but when you have at least three items that fall into the same category, try to store them in the same place. Keep your stuff in the same place so that you can quickly find them.
Letters
Throw away direct marketing letters unless you plan to use them within a few weeks. Throw away all but one or two of the best catalogs you receive and put the two promising ones in a basket. Pay your bills as early as possible to eliminate clutter.
Calender
Use a calender to keep track of events. You can either buy a traditional calender, buy a dry erase calender that allows you to avoid going out to buy new calenders or even download a free online calender that sends you notifications on your desktop, if you spend a lot of time on your computer.
