As I have been writing about e-books, I have been amazed at the negative responses from people who say that they prefer the weight, smell, and dust of a “real” book on paper, a “dead tree” book as I prefer to think of it.
But, I invite everyone to sample just one, short, powerful, and free e-book that I consider the most important e-book I’ve found anywhere online, You Are The Boss of Your Body: A Guide to Preventing Child Sexual Abuse. It is only 25 pages long (so you won’t miss too much book dust), but its author, Theresa Wiza, whose index page on the Yahoo! Contributor Network/Associated Content is here, manages to pack a lot of important information and insight into those few pages.

The Internet Archive at Archive.org is one of the most amazing sites on the Internet. Totally nonprofit, it aims to offer “universal access to all knowledge.” You can access texts, movies, images, audio as well as a back-up of almost the whole Internet, the “wayback machine.”
You can also post your own material there. You don’t make any money from such postings (but neither does anyone else). It can be a great way to make material available online. I have two books that I’ve posted there, anonymously, and Theresa Wiza recently posted her book You Are The Boss of Your Body: A Guide to Preventing Child Sexual Abuse in the Internet Archive here.
What is You Are The Boss of Your Body about?
To quote from the book, “It is written so simply your eight year old can read it by him/herself. It is researched so diligently the Child Abuse Prevention Speaker’s Bureau endorsed it. And its goal is so direct it will serve to
educate and give a strong sense of power to your child.
Theresa Wiza does not talk down to children, as she distinguishes between “comfotable touches” and “uncomfortable touches,” between “fun secrets” and “scary secrets.” She empowers children to say, “I may be little, but I’M THE BOSS OF MY OWN BODY!”
Who should get a free copy of You Are The Boss of Your Body?
I’ll say it: anyone who has a child, anyone who ever was a child. Theresa Wiza taps into a universal concern. Her book is valuable for families, schools, home-school parent groups, play group parents, as well as churches and other faith communities. You certainly cannot beat the price (free), and at 25 pages, it is not going to take up that much room, even on your hard drive.
How do you get a free copy of You Are The Boss of Your Body?
Just go to the Internet Archive page. On the left hand side, you will see several options. You can read it online, or you can download it several formats. Right-click on PDF, and you can download it to your computer to open with Acrobat Reader, pretty much a standard e-book reader. You can also download it in EPUB (for the Nook reader) or KINDLE (for, obviously, the Kindle reader).
Generally on the Internet Archive, the PDF format is the best copy of a text. But, I have read a number of texts in KINDLE format from the Internet Archive, and while the problems with the text (because it is generated from the PDF by optical character recognition) are slightly distracting, they are not impossible to deal with.
I hope you will download and read this book. I hope you will share either the URL for this article or the URL for the download page on the Internet Archive. This is an important book, and you have the potential for doing a great deal of good by helping Theresa Wiza circulate it.
By the way, there is some malfunction in the count of the number of times the book has been downloaded. I know that on several days, I have been in touch with friends, and we would download it to several computers in one day, but the number of downloads did not change.
