Food Product Review: Trader Joe’s Reduced Carb Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas

by tree pony

While shopping at Trader Joe’s, I picked out something from their Joe’s Lows product line. This associated content article is my review of Trader Joe’s Reduced Carb Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas.

Packaging

A 9.8oz package (280g) of Trader Joe’s own store brand of Reduced Carb Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas was purchased for $2.69. This package contains ten 28g servings or individual tortillas. Packaging of the vegetarian wraps is a resealable plastic bag which can be recycled with other plastic grocery bags. The package recommends refrigeration for longer storage.

Vegan, Kosher, Allergy Info

This Trader Joe’s product is vegetarian and vegan and carries the black box V, and K star symbols and the word Pareve. This product contains wheat and wheat gluten. There are no artificial preservatives, colors or flavors as stated on the front.

Taste

I had tried a different brand of low carb bread product before and they tasted noticeably different from the regular versions. In contrast, these whole wheat tortilla shells were soft, moist, and tasted great. Based on previous experience with other low carb diet products, I wouldn’t have guessed that these were lower in carbohydrates.

Serving suggestions include mini wraps, quesadillas, and fajitas. I decided on a different type of Mexican food and made a bunch of snack sized homemade vegetarian burritos with red beans, brown rice (also purchased from the same store), and chili spice. I stored them inside their zipper bag in the freezer. I made enough to fill an additional ziploc type bag. My money saving burritos stored and reheated well.

I like that these wraps are vegan, high in fiber, and have 0g of sugar. I also like that they have protein. At about 8 inches across, they are a little smaller than my usual wraps. If you are looking for a great tasting smaller sized tortilla wrap, try the Trader Joe’s Reduced Carb Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas described in this associated content article. I would like to try more of Trader Joe’s Lows reduced carb products.
