There are plenty of days when I wake up and just don’t feel right deep down in my soul. I can rarely put my finger on what’s wrong. I just know that I need to refocus on what is most important in my life. I am a very visually oriented person and while music is inspirational and uplifting, I benefit the most from music videos. Here are five videos that I watch whenever I need an uplifting in my soul.
1. David Crowder “Oh How He Loves Us”
I absolutely love David Crowder. I enjoy his style but it is the lyrics of his songs that truly speak to me. Not many artists’ lyrics speak to my soul as much as David Crowder. Sometimes I feel like he is singing exactly what I am thinking or feeling. For that reason, it is not a surprise that I would love this song and video. On the days when I feel alone and lost I play this song. It is a great reminder that God does in fact love us. He loves all of us but he also specifically loves me. I can’t always wrap my brain around that fact but He does love me. Knowing that I am personally loved by the Creator of the Universe can get me through anything.
2. John Waller “While I’m Waiting”
I probably play this song/video the most out of this group. I am having to learn about waiting during this season of my life. My husband and I have been not so patiently waiting for our next child. We have a wonderful four year old son whom we love more than life itself. But, there still seems like there is an empty spot at the dinner table. The family just doesn’t seem quite complete yet. We have prayed and sought after the Lord for His Will and we are always told to wait. And so we wait. It is extremely hard especially when everyone around us is having babies left and right. We continue to wait. We have confidence the Lord’s will is perfect and ours is not. We will worship Him while we wait.
3. Mercy Me “Bring the Rain”
I have seen my fair share of hard times from the sudden death of my beloved mother, job loss, financial hardship, and infertility. I won’t lie. It has been hard. My husband has said in the past that we have lived way too much life for 32 year olds. The interesting thing is that during the especially hard times it is then that we seek after the Lord the hardest. We seek Him for comfort and direction. And it is during those times of seeking him whole heartily that we feel the most at peace. For those reasons, I completely relate to this song. It is tough when it “rains” but if the rain brings me closer to Him, I say “Bring the Rain.”
4. Casting Crowns “East to West”
This song is simple. By spreading his arms on that cross, Jesus has “cast my sins as far as east is from the west”. I know it. I believe it. I live it. But, sometimes I need to be reminded. I get caught up in living this broken life and I forget what it is He did. I need Him to show me “Just how far the east is from the west.” Do I completely understand it? Not in the least. I just know that Jesus laid his life down for me and I will be eternally grateful of his love and mercy.
5. Hillsong “From The Inside Out”
Your light will shine when all else fades
Your glory goes beyond all fame.”
Because of all that the Lord has done for me I long to become more like him and less like me. I long for Him to “consume me from the inside out.” This song is more of a worship song than a song of encouragement for me. I like to turn this song on and just sing my heart out to Him. It is a rare morning that I don’t turn this song on while I am sipping my coffee and writing. It brings me to my center, Jesus.
