Facial skin is all to delicate: too much or too little washing, too much time in the sun, too much pore-clogging cosmetics – you know the drill. A large part of your face care regimen should be the cleansing step; the cleanser you use is vital to the success of the mission. Here are five of my favorites that do the job well. Some are better for sensitive skin, others for acne-prone skin, and yet others for skin that’s aging.
Philosophy Purity Made Simple: This deep-cleaning, very lightly-foaming cleanser is PH-balanced, excellent for all-around face care. It will get dirt and makeup out of the pores without harming sensitive skin, particularly skin around the eyes. It is gentle enough for perennially dry skin as well. An aspect of this cleanser that I love is that is is a one-step cleanser – no eye makeup remover needed! I also like the fact that the smell is gentle and non-distinctive.
Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash: A two-in-one cleanser – cleanser plus exfoliator – this is another one of my favorites. It foams lightly, enough for a great cleaning, and little beads assist in very gently lifting away dead skin. However, it is not harsh on sensitive or dry skin types. It proves excellent for those who struggle with clogged pores. The scent is just lovely – very light and fruity.
Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam: Another foaming cleanser, this one is specially medicated to help prevent breakouts on acne-prone skin. It is gentle on all skin types. It is the cornerstone to a three-step system, the other two products being Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion and Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer. However, the cleansing foam can be very successful on its own. The cleansing foam is fragrance-free.
Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes: While I’m a big fan of a good face-washing session, I know that wipes have a place – and these are some of the best around. Made without many chemicals and synthetics and with herbs and naturals such as aloe vera, chamomile, and vitamin E, they are an excellent health-minded choice. These wipes are gentle, yet will penetrate and remove the toughest eye makeup. Most people won’t have to worry about the wipes drying out their skin too much, but a few will need to apply a light moisturizer after using them.
Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel: I love the penetrating power of this gel, as well as its anti-aging properties which come from the addition of glycolic acid and salicylic acid. Made without phthalates, GMOs, and triclosan, it helps to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, brighten skin tone, and eliminate breakouts. It cleans deeply as well without drying out skin. It has a rich lather and a light scent.
