On December 31st, 2010 the Village of Saranac Lake, New York will be holding an evening long, “First Night,” family-friendly and affordable celebration.
There will be a series of over twenty distinct performances spread out over twelve different indoor venues all within close proximity to one another.
What follows is a brief description of the evening’s program as well as information on lodging options for those that wish to spend the night.
Admission to the evening long program is $12 per adult and free for children ages 12 and under.
Once the admission fee is paid, guests are given a button to wear which will grant them unfettered access to the various venues.
Buttons can be purchased in advance through the “Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce”, the “Lake Placid Visitor’s Bureau” and other locations throughout the Lake Saranac region.
The twelve venues are as follows; “Artist’s Guild”, “Will Rogers”, “Harrietstown Town Hall”, “Saranac Free Library”, “Episcopal Church”, “Pendragon Theater”, “St. Bernard’s Catholic Church”, “Elks Club”, Petrova School”, “Methodist Church”, “BluSeed Studios” and the “Presbyterian Church.”
Over Twenty Performers
Just some of the amazing artists that will be performing throughout the evening are as follows; pianist Joey Izzo, fiddlers Lisa Bethany, Singer Roy Hurd, ventriloquist Slyvia Fletcher,” Dugan Family Folk Dancers”, comedian Andy Pitz, “High peaks Opera”, “Loon Works Magic and Clowning”, Storyteller Karen Glass, circus performer Brent McCoy and several renowned bands such as “Runa”, “Days of Jazz” and “Too Tall String.”
Schedule of Events
The unofficial start of the “First Night” festivities begins at 1:00 pm with a mask making program at the “BluSeed Studios.”
The mask making program is followed by the 5:45 pm official kick off at the “Harrietstown Town Hall.”
Afterward, live performances of magic, dance, music, art, comedy and more will continue throughout the Saranac Lake area from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm.
The event will then conclude with a countdown to the New Year, snowflake drop and a fabulous fireworks display over Saranac Lake.

Those travelers who wish to spend the night in the Saranac Lake area will find a variety of lodging options including the “Gauthier’s Saranac Lake Inn.”
The “Gauthier’s Saranac Lake Inn” offers a plethora of packages for the winter holidays including a $389 per person, three day ski and stay package.
The $389 package price is inclusive of overnight accommodations and a full lift ticket to nearby “Whiteface Mountain.” Less expensive, standard room rates are also available.

Those that are planning on spending the night should note that in the days leading up to and after the “First Night” festivities there will be other special events held at “Whiteface Mountain.”
The other events include but are not limited to the “56th Annual New Years’ Master Ski Jump” and the January 2nd, 2011 “Island Madness Event.”
