The red carpet at the Golden Globes was somewhat subdued in the styles stakes this year, but it was nevertheless far from boring. This article looks at the key fashion trends to emerge from the 2011 Golden globes.
Six fashion trends to emerge from the 2011 Golden Globes:
1. Long sleeve dresses
Several celebrities turned their backs on the ever popular strapless gown, and instead opted for dresses that featured full length sleeves. Some of the most noteworthy stars to don this look were; Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie and Leighton Meester. Anne Hathaway’s sleeves were particularly stand out, because they featured a structured puff sleeve style at the sleeve head, and were very fitted and sleek at the wrist. See a picture here.
2. Sparkle
Many gowns had some form of shimmer, or sparkle. Stars like Amber Riley, Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway sparkled from top to toe and Olivia Wilde looked really pretty in a Black tulle gown that featured some form of bead or sequin detail. The bodice was completely covered in sparkle, but it became just a light spray towards the hem of the skirt. See a picture here.
3. Simplicity
Several women kept things simple by wearing sleek dresses devoid of complex details. Emma stone wore a simple peach colored number that created interest with a low back, rather than any frills or fuss. See a picture. The dress Claire Danes wore, was very similar. It was detail free except for the low back and skimpy cut sides. See a picture.
4. Pale neutrals
There were several Black and jewel toned dresses floating around on Golden Globes night, but overall one of the most popular color schemes was the family of pale neutrals. Dianna Agron, Helen Mirren, Leighton Meester and Scarlett Johansson, were just a few of the people who wore soft tones of nude or beige.
5. Trains
From subtle sweeps through to more dramatic designs, trains were very popular on the red carpet at the Globes this year. Halle Berry wore a dress that was short in front, but featured a long train at the back. See a picture. The train on Catherine Zeta Jones’ dress was a perfect accompaniment to her voluminous skirt. 6. Accessories with bling
Olivia Wilde lifted her full skirt to show off stud encrusted gold tone shoes. See a picture. Jennifer Lopez carried a super sparkly clutch only about the size of her hand, the cape section of her dress was adorned with crystals and she looked to be wearing some serious bling in her ears.
