Earlier today I made note of how a good number of today’s games were going to be played in inclement weather containing heavy rain/snow along with strong winds which could conceivably make the passing games moot and make it a good idea to bench the QB’s involved. Such particular fantasy football worthy guys in this scenario were the Bills’ Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Patriots’ Tom Brady, the Jets’ Mark Sanchez, the Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger, the Bears’ Jay Cutler, and the Bengals’ Carson Palmer. In their place I suggested going with one of the three: the Jags’ David Garrard, the Cowboys’ Jon Kitna, and the Rams’ Sam Bradford. With the advantage of hindsight, lets go back and see if those who took me up on the advice made the right move.
The QB’s Who Played In The Bad Weather:
Ben Roethlisberger: 21/33 for 258 yards with 0 TD and 0 INT. Nothing doing here for Big Ben and so those who benched him made the right decision.
Carson Palmer: 20/32 for 178 yards with 1 TD and 3 INT. Its debatable about whether Palmer is even fantasy football worthy anymore but those in deep leagues coould do worse. Either way he was hideous and it was correct to bench the guy.
Mark Sanchez: 17/44 for 216 yards with 0 TD and 1 INT. Sanchez has been putrid the last month and so th curiosity has worn off here. He had issues all game with inaccuracy and should have had way more picks as a few were dropped by the Fish in this game.
Ryan Fitzpatrick: 14/23 for 142 yards with 1 TD and 0 INT. Another guy who didnt do much at all and the TD was really the only thing to hang your hat on if you started him. We are now 3/3 in guys who I told you to bench and who wound up confirming the thought.
Tom Brady: 27/40 for 369 yards with 2 TD and 0 INT. Not even a snowstorm can stop Brady now and this is the only game that actually had a good outing from the guys I told you to bench. I am glad I was off this week as I would have considered benching Brady and than likely have kicked myself all off-season. Big bullet dodged there.
Jay Cutler: 12/26 for 152 yards with 0 TD and 2 INT. Ugly game here for Cutler as his strong arm couldnt cut through the storm. A complete washout.
The QB’s Who I Told You To Play In His Place:
David Garrard: 11/22 for 159 yards with 3 TD and 1 INT. If this were a week I was playing, I woould have picked him up as Kitna is taken in my league. Garrard made me look real good today as he was easily one of the best fantasy football guys today. I will pat myself on the back here.
Sam Bradford: 18/32 for 231 yards with 0 TD and 2 INT. Just a bad game for the rookie which is surprising when you see who he faced this week. Just shows you how you cant trust rookies in fantasy football at the QB spot.
So overall 5 out of the 6 guys I told you to benched proved me right and 1 of the 2 I told you to start did well. All in all I consider that a win as I think Kitna will be good tonight.
