Dying is just like taxes in the respect that it is going to happen to you and me. Over history, we realize it doesn’t matter who you are, you are going to face death. Famous people have no secret weapon against death. They are just like you and I. They will die. We will die. Death is a part of life. However, many of us look forward to eternal life in Heaven. After we all pass from this world, I hope to meet each one of you in a better place called Heaven.

What Happened on in History?

1850- 1st US $20 gold piece issued

1903- NY Highlanders (Yankees) approved as members of AL

1933- President FDR conducts his 1st “fireside chat”

1947 – President Truman introduces Truman-doctrine to fight communism

Deaths

1813-1888 –Henry Bergh, founder (ASPCA) in 1866, Bergh also prompted the formation, in 1874, of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children

1847-1902 –John Peter Altgeld, German/US 20th governor of Illinois, in 1896 he was a leader of the left wing of the Democratic Party, opposing President Grover Cleveland and the conservative Bourbon Democrats. He was defeated for reelection in 1896 in an intensely fought, bitter campaign

1846-1914 –George Westinghouse, US engineer (Westinghouse Electric), he invented the railway brake and he was also one of Thomas Edison’s main rivalries

1894-1930 –William George Barker was a Canadian fighter ace in WWI and a Victoria Cross recipient

1929-1945 –Anne Frank, diarist (Diary of Anne Frank), killed in Belsen Concentration Camp, is one of the most renowned and most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Acknowledged for the quality of her writing, her diary has become one of the world’s most widely read books, and has been the basis for several plays and films

1871-1947 –“Winston Churchill the American”, American novelist, he is mistaken for the great British statesman Winston Churchill

1904-1974 –George D. Sax, Drive-in bank and instant loan innovator and owner of the Saxony Hotel.

1927-2001 –Robert Ludlum was a famous American author who published 25 Thriller Novels, The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy etc.

1897-2008 –Lazare Ponticelli, the last “poilu”, French foot soldier of World War One, dies at 110
