Saturday night, (2/5/2011) the WWE had a house show in Toronto, Ontario the hometown of the World Champion (Edge). Dolph Ziggler and Edge faced each other in a Toronto Street Fight for the World Championship. Ziggler shows up to the ring with a Leaf Jersey with a large X on the jersey. In the end, Edge takes the jersey from Dolph and the victory to retain the World Title. As Edge begins to cut a promo before his hometown, he puts on the jersey, while taking the X off the jersey in the process.
Edge announces this to his hometown fans:
“I might only have a couple more of these visits left in me, and I want to end my career in Toronto. Maybe if Mania is here.”
That’s right Edge seems to be confirming those retirement rumors many fans have been hearing lately. He said that he hopes Wrestlemania 28 is held in Toronto so he can end his career in his hometown. Edge is referring to the 2012 year, and hopes that Toronto can host the biggest PPV in sports entertainment, so he can possibly retire there. It may be a slim chance that WM will occur in Toronto in 2012. There are many other cities all over the US that want Wrestlemania in their respected town in 2012. We will just have to wait to see which city gets the chance to host Wrestlemania in 2012.
Edge has accomplished everything in his decorated career in the WWE. He has won multiple tag titles, and other singles championships various times. As a young boy Edge set out to win the World/WWE Championship one day, and has accomplished his dream ten times. In a very recent interview, Edge discusses why he feels like his has accomplished all his dreams in the WWE, and his plans after WWE:
“Honestly, it’s going to sound stupid, but this is the tenth time I got it. I always said I’d do it once, so anything else from here is like bonus. Honestly, now I’m starting to think of things I want to do after. I want to train and make an attempt at Everest. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to do it, but I think it would be cool to give it a shot. I still love it, it’s the greatest gig in the world for me, but I know my body can’t keep up with what my mind is telling me.”
So my prediction is Edge and Del Rio will meet each other at Wrestlemania 27. The match will be an instant classic, but Del Rio will become the new heavyweight champion, and Edge will never reign as the World Champion again. Edge will probably retire in 2012 whether WM 28 is held in Toronto or not. I highly doubt Edge will go to another Wrestling Promotion after his loyalty to the WWE, and his many years as a professional wrestler. Whatever he decides to do, I will always appreciate the 100% effort he gave every single night as a WWE Superstar.
