Every Saturday morning my husband and I meet a group of friends for breakfast, and one of our friends is in his seventies and he seems to be losing his vision (due to macular degeneration) at an alarmingly fast rate. When he was reading over the restaurants menu, he pulled out a tiny magnifying glass called the Easy Pocket Credit Card Sized Illuminated Magnifier.
I have a small, pop up, lighted magnifying glass of my own, but it is not nearly as nice as this Easy Pocket model, and my light burns out very quickly. Each of us were so impressed with his Easy Pocket Credit Card Sized Illuminated Magnifier that we passed it all around the table, each of us asking him questions about the nifty product.
The Easy Pocket is tiny, I think it’s even smaller in size than a credit card. His was silver in color, but he said they come in black as well. The lens, which measures 50 mm by 46 mm (roughly 2″ by 2″), simply pulls out from one open end. To turn the LED light on you only have to pull it out a tad bit farther until it clicks. This light never needs to be replaced!
The company states that it works with a “Diffractive hybrid lens that is distortion-free and only 3 mm thick”. Other magnifying glasses of this same power as as much as five times as thick! It does take two flat button sized batteries that are easy to change, but we understand that they last a very long time. The case is very strong, made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic. That was a new one for me, but it is indeed very strong, yet attractive looking.
The Easy Pocket Credit Card Sized Illuminated Magnifier has 3x magnification, and when I looked at the tiny font that was printed on the packs of sugar substitute, it was easy to read them when using this magnifier! My friend said he has not been able to read store prices for a year now, that is until he managed to find the Easy Pocket Credit Card Sized Illuminated Magnifier. Now he is able to know what items cost, and he is less dependent on others.
My pop up lighted magnifier works, but it distorts the images. I am glad to tell you that the Easy Pocket does not distort, it is an amazing pocket sized, lighted magnifying device for the visually impaired.
This great visual aid is made by Eschenbach Optik, a company known for making high quality devices with high resolution. The Easy Pocket also comes in a 4x version in a metallic blue colored case. While these are expensive, retailing for as much as $70.00, my friend was given one through a center for the blind and visually impaired, who had been given a grant to purchase such items.
This is a fantastic aid for the visually impaired. It is tiny enough to fit into a shirt pocket, and can be used discreetly in a dimly lit restaurant, or anywhere else for that matter. I highly recommend the Easy Pocket Credit Card Sized Illuminated Magnifier.
