The 70th Annual Daytona Beach Bike Week begins March 3rd, 2011 and offers 10 days of fun in the sun activities and raucous activities for motorcycle lovers. Nearly a half-million bikers unite at the ‘World’s Most Famous Beach’ where the need for speed has been prevalent since the early 1900s.
Daytona Beach Bike Week offers something for everyone, but families with young children should be forewarned that many attendees adhere to a ‘minimal clothing’ agenda.
When walking the streets of Daytona during Bike Week it is not uncommon to see women’s breasts covered only with paint and pasties. The language can be somewhat vulgar and a few bar brawls breakout, but for the most part it’s all in good fun.
Daytona Bike Week is the perfect venue for people-watching and offers an abundance of unique photo opportunities. Visitors are privy to sights-unseen anywhere else in the world. Thousands of custom choppers, vintage motorcycles, tricked-out sports bikes, and beefy Harley-Davidson’s cruise the streets. Proud bikers place their works of art on display for all to enjoy.
This year, Bike Week attendees can partake in a Treasure Hunt to win 1 of 500 Official Bike Week commemorative coins. Visitors can download a Treasure Hunt passport at OfficalBikeWeek.com or pick up one at the Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce. Participants visit select locations to have their passport stamped. Once completed, passports are presented to the official headquarters tent to claim prizes.
Bike Week sponsors offer a vast array of activities that will keep guests entertained and well-fed throughout the 10-day extravaganza. Harley-Davidson Motor Co. is hosting Biking on the Boulevard which includes: Women’s MDA Ride, H.O.G. Day, Black Bike Week, H-D Racing, H-D1™ Custom Bike Showcase, and local Harley-Davidson dealer demo rides.
Smokehouse Saloon and Grill Daytona Beach will be hosting a bike show from 4-8 pm on Friday, March 4th, and free BBQ Sunday on March 6th and 12th. While PETA might object, Smokehouse Saloon will parade a hog along Main Street on Thursday, March 5th. Attendees have the opportunity to guess the hog’s weight to win prizes.
Smokehouse Saloon will provide entertainment throughout Bike Week including live entertainment and KY Jelly Wrestling. Join in the fun at 116 Madison Avenue in Daytona Beach.
Speaking of wrestling, a must-do event during Bike Week 2011 is a visit to the Cabbage Patch Bar. This place is not for the faint of heart and if nakedness offends you might want to skip the show. If you want the full effect of Bike Week, attendance at the world famous coleslaw wrestling tournament is required.
The Cabbage Patch is a hotbed of activity throughout Bike Week. Cole slaw wrestling takes place on Wednesday, March 9th and Saturday, March 12th. Additional events include: Wet T-Shirt and Best Body Paint competitions, Crown Royal bike show, live entertainment, vendor booths, great food, and of course, beautiful babes.
Another must-do event is Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona. A variety of events are planned throughout the week. Visitors can get up-close-and-personal with the Budweiser Clydesdales; enjoy great food and live entertainment; participate in, or watch, bikini contests; and much more.
On March 11th at 11 am, Destination Daytona will be hosting a record-setting ‘Marriage Vows and Renewal Ceremony on Motorcycles’ event. Anyone who wants to get hitched in the Sunshine State and help set a world record for most wedding vows on bikes is invited to attend.
Gilly’s Pub 44 in New Smyrna Beach is a popular gathering hole for bikers. Pub 44 is infamous for pulling out all the stops during Bike Week. It’s a non-stop party with plenty of cold beer and mixed drinks, exceptional entertainment, great food, and biker brotherhood and sisterhood camaraderie.
