On my latest trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, my family and I had the pleasure of dining in Downtown Disney’s newest eating establishment. It’s called Pollo Campero/Fresh A Peel. This eatery is actually 3 restaurants in one. Pollo Campero serves chicken and sides with a Latin flare. Fresh A Peel offers healthier eating options. The bakery sponsored by Babycakes NYC offers cupcakes and sweets that are sensitive to those suffering from gluten and dairy allergies. There is seating available inside, or outside on the patio. disneyparks.disney.go.com
Pollo Campero offers chicken served 4 ways: traditional fried, citrus grilled, strips, or as a sandwich. The sandwich can be fried or grilled. Orders can be prepared individually with one side, or family sized with multiple sides. Sides include: French fries, rice and black beans, and plantains. My family tried the citrus grilled chicken, and it was delicious. It was very juicy, and the Latin spices gave it an unbelievable flavor.
Fresh A Peel offers healthy eating options, and uses only hormone free ingredients. All beef hot dogs on multigrain buns, angus burgers, salads and wraps are the offerings here. The same sides can be ordered from the Pollo side, or choose from fresh fruit, pickles, or veggies and dip. I had the mini angus burgers, and I enjoyed them very much.
Both restaurants share a toppings bar. Here, you will find: onions, tortillas, salsa, pico de gallo, jalapenos, mustard, and ketchup. Coke products are available, as well as beverages from a Latin drink bar. These drinks include: watermelon sangria, beer, and real fruit smoothies. Soy milk, regular milk, and bottled teas are available as well. My husband and I had the sangria, and found it to be refreshingly cold, and fruity.
Now, for dessert. The bakery sponsored by Babycakes NYC offers sweets that are: refined sugar free, gluten free, wheat free, soy free, egg free, and casein free. The offerings change on a regular basis. When I visited, we bought one of each of the cupcakes that were available that day. They included: red velvet, pumpkin, vanilla, chocolate, mint, and carrot. Cookie and brownies were available as well. I have to say, the cupcakes were amazing, probably the best I have ever tasted. If I didn’t know ahead of time how nutritious they were, I never would have guessed.
I cannot wait to come back and try Pollo Campero/Fresh A Peel again. I found the food to be delicious, and the atmosphere to be vibrant and alive. It’s nice having healthier eating options available in the Downtown Disney area.
