Did Boston Rob Mariano Reveal Survivor: Redemption Island Secret on the Early Show Today?

by tree pony

Boston Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz appeared on the Early Show today to promote Survivor: Redemption Island, which begins tonight on CBS. But the wording of Rob Mariano’s answers might have given a hint to what will happen on the show.

This season of Survivor will premiere “Redemption Island,” a place where survivors go after they are voted out of a tribe. The island provides an opportunity for survivors to compete against others who have been voted out, in one-on-one competitions, and potentially work their way back into the main game. Boston Rob Mariano discussed the Redemption Island innovation on the Early Show this morning. Recall that the filming of this season of Survivor has already ended, so Boston Rob currently finds himself with complete knowledge of his time on the show, but contractually prohibited from revealing any plot points publicly. Unfortunately for Rob, it is practically impossible to discuss the show without giving something away.

When asked to describe the upcoming season, Boston Rob said, in part, “For the first time, when you’re voted out of the game, you’re not actually out. When Jeff snuffs your torch, you’re going to go to another part of the island…” [Source: “‘Survivor’ Star Russell Hantz Denies Leaks,” CBSNews.com, 2/16/11. He could have said, “When a contestant is voted out of the game, he/she is not actually out…” That would be the objective tone, appropriate when speaking about others. But instead he used the more personal, “you,” which is appropriate when discussing a shared experience. That implies that he personally was voted off at some point during the game, and that he did not, therefore, make it into the final three unless he managed to defeat all other voted-off survivors on Redemption Island.

I realize that I might be reading too much into this. But I, for one, believe one hundred percent that Boston Rob will be voted off. Over the next few weeks we will find out.
