This guide will cover the DC Universe Online Quest known as ‘The Awakening’ played from the villain side. Below you will find a walkthrough and various details of this quest broken down. Due to the nature of mmorpgs such as DC Universe Online and their patches, if you find any changed out of date or missing information, alert me with a comment and I will be happy to update the article.
DC Universe Online Quests – The Awakening

Reward: Mask of the Victor
Enemies encountered: Brainiac Sentry, Brainiac Subjugator, Brainiac Overseer, Brainiac Encloser, Brainiac Ship Guardian.
You begin this quest right after making your new character. You begin trapped on Brainiac’s ship, forced to fight your way out for freedom. This quest is designed to serve as an introductory course to the game.
The Awakening – Objective #1 – Defeat Guard
Defeat the Brainiac Sentry in the room you start out with to satisfy this objective. Once you do so, Calculator will contact you and the door will open allowing you to proceed.
The Awakening – Objective #2 – Defeat All Guards (5)
One the doors open, it’s time to head down the hall and clear the 5 Brainiac Sentries here. They are in two groups, of 3 and two in order you will encounter them. Just focus fire on one at a time and you should have no problem.
The Awakening – Objective #3 – Defeat Overseer
The Brainiac Overseer is the first boss type encounter in the game. and you will have to take him down in a one on one fight. Keep moving and break out of his grounding beam if it traps you. Typically after the beam he will raise a shield like effect, before charging to ram you. Make sure to dodge this attack quickly, then follow up with damaging the Overseer while he is disabled after the charge.
The Awakening – Objective #4 – Escape Using Transport Tube
Objective Reward: +505 XP
After defeating the Overseer, a tunnel opens up above. Get up there and enter the tunnel with your movement mode to continue on to the next part of the ship. Upon entering the tube your objective is completed and XP reward granted, which is enough to put you at level 2 at this point. There is another objective that comes up to continue exiting the tunnel.
The Awakening – Objective #5 – Escape Using Transport Tube cont.
Spend your power point gained for leveling up, preferably on something with an area of effect attack, as you will face numerous weaker enemies for the rest of the mission. Break open the safe on your way through the tunnel for useful loot. This safe always contains Soder Cola and a Plated Synthium Shirt.
The Awakening – Objective #6 – Get Past Patrols
You will begin encountering enemies again, first 2 sentries, then 2 subjagators and four sentries that arrive in a group through an opening door ahead. This is a great opportunity to start practicing with your aoe skills if you picked one. Continue fighting through and you will arrive at the transport tube in a room with 6 sentries.

Fly through this tunnel down to the bottom, there is some junk here you can pick up and throw around.
The Awakening – Objective #8 – Defeat Security
Objective Rewards: 1,333 XP
You will end up in a room with a large amount of enemies and many explosive barrels lying around. Equip some Soder Cola in case you need it, as they will gang up on you quickly, and the several subjugators can use grounding beams on you. Try to use this opportunity to nail a few of them with containers, as it also works your way towards the related feat Red Barrel Buster. The last enemy downed results in the rewarded XP causing another immediate level gain. Use the skill point on something and continue on.
The Awakening – Objective #8 – Defeat Shielded Security Device / Defeat Security
You will encounter a room next with a few enemies guarding a shielded yellow glowing bubble-like device. Fight the enemies here and clear them out first, while being ready to break out of the stun effect caused by the glowing device, as it discharges its blue shield. Interestingly, this stuns the enemies to, so if you breakout quickly, you get free shots on the defenders. When the blue shield is down, you can fire on the device to destroy it, but do so before the shield recharges. Fight your way through more security after this until you get to the final room. There will be a Brainiac Encloser who has a trap effect amongst the next groups of defenders.
The Awakening – Objective #9 – Defeat Overseer Patrol (5)
You will now face another Overseer with 4 guarding lighter enemies. It can help to focus on the sentries and subjugators first, as they have a tendency to interrupt your attempts at fleeing the Overseer’s charge. Once these are down it’s on to the final task.
The Awakening – Objective #10 – Destroy Power Couplings (4)
Now you will be entering the final area, where the Ship Guardian is located, serving as the final boss. Destroy the 4 power couplings while taking out the enemies that start off guarding, and came in waves with every destroyed coupling. Destroying the last coupling disables any remaining lighter enemies while breaking the game into a quick cut scene showing the ship’s gun coming detached and falling away.
The Awakening – Objective #11 – Defeat the Guardian
Objective Reward: 1650 XP, 31 Cash
Time for the last boss fight. This guy is somewhat of a pushover, just avoid its slow moving ranged attacks while running from the Guardian when it is about to release an energy pulse. After the pulse you are also given some free time to attack. After the Guardian is down, Future Lex Luthor teleports in to help you fight a series of waves of sentries and subjugators. Let Lex draw the fire here while you finish off the enemies that are weakened to nab their loot. After a number of waves are downed, you will be able to speak to Lex to receive your rewards of cash and xp. Finally enter the teleporter to be start another cut scene and be transported to your starting location (determined by mentor).
