It is not easy to find yogurt that is not packed full of sugar, unless you shop around carefully for “light” varieties of yogurt. Dannon Light & Fit® Strawberries & Cream Yogurt is touted as “diabetic friendly” with “carb & sugar control™”. But is this product as good as it seems?
Price and Availability
I purchased a 4-pack of Dannon Light & Fit® Strawberries & Cream Yogurt for just $1 from my local 99¢ Only shop. After searching for my usual brand of yogurt, I noticed Dannon Light & Fit® Strawberries & Cream Yogurt. I was delighted to learn that it contained much less sugar than other brands of yogurt, even the brand I usually purchase. That is why I decided to give it a try.
Dannon Light & Fit® Strawberries & Cream Yogurt looks like a desirable alternative to regular brands of yogurt, especially for those who are trying to eat a low-sugar diet, such as diabetics, as the product claims to have 85% less sugar than regular low-fat brands of yogurt.
Each 113g (4 0z) cup serving contains 50 calories, 1g saturated fat, 10mg cholesterol, 25mg sodium, 80mg potassium, 3g carbohydrate, 2g sugars and 5g protein. Each serving also contains 15% of your daily calcium intake and 10% phosphorus, compared to a leading regular non-fat yogurt competitor that contains 115 calories, 1g fat, and 18g sugar.
Dannon Light & Fit® Strawberries & Cream Yogurt looks like regular strawberry yogurt. I was surprised to find that it tasted sweet, even though this product contained just 2g of sugar in each serving. When I inspected the nutrition facts, I saw a vague mention of how the yogurt had been “naturally and artificially flavoured”, which I came to find out was from sucralose. This was a disappointment to me. The whole point of buying Dannon Light & Fit® Strawberries & Cream Yogurt was due to the fact that it was low in sugar. If I had wanted a sweet-tasting yogurt, I would have purchased a regular variety.
After sampling Dannon Light & Fit® Strawberries & Cream Yogurt, I came to the conclusion that it was a fair product, and nothing more. It was well priced, but it still tasted very sweet, which I found disappointing. If you are looking for a yogurt that is low in calories, fat and sugar, I would recommend this product, but if, like me, you prefer yogurts that are not artificially sweetened, I would skip this product.
