During the spring season schools really start to focus on getting kids ready for the tests that they have to take before the end of the year. Even kids who are in college are getting ready for their end of the year, or semester testing. Testing can really be stressful for young children, but there are some strategies that you can teach your children, that may prove to be beneficial. The tips below are for older children who may need a few tricks to help them get through remembering the information, for the big test day.
Work on your study technique
A child’s study technique can be the difference between remembering the information and not remembering. If you notice that your child has a difficult time with passing test’s, talked to them about heir study technique. Before you automatically assume that this is the problem, have them show you what their study technique is. When they have finished showing you what they do perhaps you can offer them few ideas and suggestions. For example do they take notes when they are reading the information? Taking notes can really help your children to remember the facts about the information they are learning. How they study can really make all the difference in the world when it comes to test taking.
Study when you have energy
The best time to study is when you have the energy. Being well rested can really affect how well you remember information that you are reading. If you wait until late into the evening to study you may find it even more difficult to remember. For some it may be easier to study in the morning when you are fresh and after they have eaten and started their day. Help your child to find their best study time. The options are usually before school, after school, or on the weekends. Instead of forcing them to study non stop like some do, why not just focus on the time that is best for them.
Focus on one subject at a time
Taking the time to focus on one subject at a time, can really help you to remember the information. Unfortunately tests are often given on several subjects in one day, especially for high school students. If you take the time and study one subject a day, you may be able to really remember the information.
Test their knowledge
After your children have finished studying, why not test them on the information. You can easily create your own test based on the information your child is studying. You may also be able to find some information online such as a sample test or a skills test. These are great ways to see if your children really understand the information that is given.
