Ethnic cuisine based restaurants have been popular for decades including those that focus on Spanish foods.
Many people may not realize that there are several different kinds of Spanish cuisine that are based on various regions throughout the world.
For example, my in-laws have ancestral roots in Cuba, Spain and Puerto Rico. A simple, traditional dish of roast pork, also known as pernil, is prepared differently in each of those regions.
Therefore, diners should bear in mind that with such regional differences, all Spanish themed restaurants are not created equal. A good quality Cuban themed restaurant is the “Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar” in Orlando, Florida.
What follows is a brief description of just some of what visitors to the restaurant can expect to encounter.
First off, the “Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar” serves lunch and dinner only. The cuisine of course is Cuban inspired and contains such staples as “maduros”, “arroz con leche”, “tocino del cielo”, empanadas, and “moros y cristianos.”
Appetizers at the “Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar” tend to range from $12 to $30 and entrée prices range from $19 to $30 per person.
The Orlando restaurant features a $39 per person “Chef’s 15 Tastes of Cuba” tasting menu, which is perfect for those who are not familiar with Cuban inspired cuisine. This option provides diners with miniature tasting plates that cover a multitude of dishes from appetizers right through to dessert.
Hours of Operation
“Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar” is open daily, year round. The restaurant closes at 11:00 pm and the bar portion remains open until 2:00 am.
Happy Hour is held Monday through Friday from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm and on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm.
During happy hour there is a bar food menu that features items such as “yuca frita”, “chicharrones de la pollo” and “guacamole Cubano.”
Drink specials during “Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar’s” happy hour are in the $4 range and consist of such well-known, Cuban inspired drinks as mojitos.
What Cuban inspired restaurant would be complete without salsa dancing? Every Friday and Saturday night the venue features four live, Latin inspired floor shows.
The shows run from 9:00 pm until 11:15 pm and expertly entertain diners with vibrantly clothed dancers moving to a hot, pulsating Latin beat.
Though not yet truly considered a chain restaurant, there are currently a total of four “Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar” locations in the United States; Orlando, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
Would-be diners should note that menu selections, prices and hours of operation are subject to change without advance notice and therefore should be confirmed directly with the “Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar” staff.
Advance reservations are not required for the “Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar” locations but are strongly suggested and can be made by calling the restaurant staff directly.
