Bears hibernate all winter and there are days that people would like to do the same. When the chill starts to get into the air and the snowflakes begin to fall, it would be nice to escape into our homes and not go back out until the spring flowers are up and the smell of fresh green grass was in the air, but unfortunately most of us can not do that. We can make our homes a cozy place to be though with just a little work.
First of all, finding a place to decide to make this work is the number one step. Whether it be the family room or the bedroom there is always a room that you would prefer to be in during the long cold days of winter. Most of these ideas will work in any room. Others will only work in certain rooms.
Begin by filling your pantry with a wide selection of warm drinks that anyone in the house will drink. Hot cocoa and hot tea comes in many varieties and should have a flavor that anyone will like. I know that adding a flavored creamer to hot chocolate will always change the flavor, as we prefer french vanilla creamer over milk in our hot cocoa. Many tea companies such as The Republic of Tea offer many flavors of tea and some are geared towards kids even. This will be one of the most relaxing parts of the day.
Next fill the space with large fluffy pillows. Make sure that these pillows are comfy, an over sized one is best. Use these for snuggling up on or next to when reading a book, reading to your child, or even watching a great movie together with your spouse, child, or friend. Pillows that can be used on the floor make a great way to lie down and watch a movie together. If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace, keep a few within reach and being snuggled up next to the fire can make a romantic evening or just a family fun evening.
Being cozy requires soft, fluffy blankets. There is nothing compares to hibernating as to snuggle up with a fluffy blanket with an over sized pillow and a cup of warm tea or cocoa with a good movie or book. It will make for the perfect winter evening or even a nice long winter day when you can watch the snowfall and know that you are toasty warm inside while Old Man Winter is at his worst outside.
Highlight the whole experience with a battery operated candle or a regular candle to light up the room. This is especially important if you are trying to make an evening romantic as well as warm and inviting. A candle lit room is full of warmth and elegance. I recommend using the battery operated ones if you plan to have them in a bedroom. These are much safer than a regular candle.
To top the whole cozy home off, put flannel sheets on the bed. This will keep you from crawling into a very cold bed after such a warm, cozy atmosphere. Flannel sheets come in most any size and color these days so it is not hard to find something that fits both the size of the bed and your tastes. Children will especially love these if they are not feeling well and need to be in bed all day. Cozy needs to be comfortable and warm so each of these ideas fit that description and will allow your family to say that they feel as though they can hibernate whenever they want too.
