What are all-in-twos? All-in-two diapers are very similar to all-in-one diapers, however, the absorbent soaker pad of the diaper can be removed from the actual diaper. All-in-two diapers are waterproof and the separate soaker is generally laid in the diaper, or snapped or velcroed in. All-in-two diapers are fastened using snaps or velcro.
Pros of All-in-Two Diapers
All-in-two diapers are easy and convienent. All-in-two diapers are quick to assemble and if needed, the soakers can be replaced when they wear out, even if the diaper body is still in good shape. These diapers are simple enough that most caregivers will have little trouble using them, even if they are not accustomed to using cloth diapers. Most all-in-twos can be easily customized for heavier wetters by adding extra soaker pads or doublers to the diaper.
Cons of All-in-Two Diapers
Depending how thick the soaker is, it may be difficult to wash the soaker well, trapping smells in the soaker. If the soaker is a lay-in soaker, it can be difficult for some parents to get it in just the right spot, or it may move around in the diaper as the child moves, creating less absorbency where needed due to the placement of the soaker.
I really liked using all-in-twos when my kids were less than a year old. At that stage, the baby was mobile, but they weren’t very mobile, and they hadn’t begun to be super-heavy wetters either. As my kids got older, the all-in-twos weren’t standing up to them and I found myself dealing with leaks due to the soaker moving in the diaper, or not being able to stand up to how much they were wetting.
What Others Are Saying
“After we stopped using prefolds on our newborn, we moved to all-in-twos. We really liked that we could simply replace the soaker when it got old and worn, rather than having to replace the entire diaper!” -Carol, mother of one.
“All-in-twos have been great for us! We had started with all-in-ones, but they just weren’t cutting it for us. We would wash them and strip them, but they always smelled so awful! We liked the ease of all-in-ones, but not the smell! All-in-twos were a nearly-as-easy-but-way-less-smelly alternative!” -Sarah, mother of five.
“All-in-twos are really easy. I love that I can use pretty much any type of soaker with the diaper part. If my soakers are all in the wash, I can fold up a prefold, or even a kitchen towel to ‘make do’ until the laundry is done!” -Melanie, mother of three.
