Mascara’s never really tend to live up to the hype about them, and often women hope that a mascara will transform their eyes into something they are lacking … still I feel using mascara as part of my makeup routine really does make my eyes “pop”.
One day my current mascara literally broke. The entire seal came off of the tube and the brush had a goopy mess all over it. There was no saving it and I had to throw it away. That left me with an afternoon to purchase a new mascara locally – so I headed over to the local supercenter. I had a chance to get money off of a Covergirl product and I use a clear mascara for my eyebrows from CoverGirl so I was familiar enough with their mascara choices.
I looked at, and selected, their Fantastic Lash line. CoverGirl currently makes 3 versions of the Fantastic Lash mascara – their regular mascara with a straight brush, their waterproof version with a straight brush, and a curved brush version. I purchased the Waterproof straight brush in a shade called Very Black. The tube is fatter on the ends and kind of curved in in the middle, a little like a silhouette. The wand is inside the handle and brush is submerged in the colored product. Pretty much like most typical mascaras you can buy.
I only use one mascara at a time and I typically don’t think about mascara too much. So long as it doesn’t run, zap off my lashes, clump, or sting I’m good. The company claims this mascara “fans” out your lashes and provides volume. My lashes, I feel, are kind of average but not dark enough to stand out. I like that CoverGirl has made a waterproof version, as non-waterproof mascaras smear off everywhere. I like the tube and find it easy to use. I have a large train case and so I don’t find that it takes up any more room than other mascaras I have used. The wand is straight and a little fatter in the middle and thinner at the ends. It looks similar to other more expensive mascaras that I have owned.
I’ve found my tube of CoverGirl Fantasic Lash Mascara to perform very well. I’ve had the tube for about months now and use it about 5 days a week. It coats well and is a dark, noticeable black. I don’t feel the “Very Black” is over the top for daytime I wear. (I teach and wear it to work) I have found that this mascara coats my lashes well and is easy to use. The size of the wand and brush works well for me. The mascara has not clumped and I can certainly notice when I have it on – so I guess I’d safely say that it adds more volume.
This mascara I’ve found is fairly easy to wash off. I’ve used a variety of facial cleansers and a washcloth to take it off with. It doesn’t burn or irritate and my lashes look no worse for the wear.
I think mascara claims should be taken with a grain of salt. I haven’t found a mascara that totally transforms your lashes – that’s what false eyelashes are for! But I think any well performing mascara that coats well can thicken and not leave spidery looking lashes. I think this mascara falls into the better than average category, but not anything I can’t live without.
Overall I feel CoverGirl Fantasic Lash Mascara is a solidly performing mascara that is affordable, easy to find, and easy to use!
