Christina Perri’s Rise
Christina’s big break came on June 30, 2010 when her song “Jar of Hearts” was featured on “So You Think You Can Dance” during a piece choreographed by Stacey Tookey. The song was an instant hit, climbing to number 10 spot on the iTunes pop chart. Two weeks later, Christina Perri was asked to come back to the show and perform life. Christina Perri’s rapid success got her quickly noticed by executives at Atlantic Records, where she is now signed and recording her first full album. When looking back at how quickly she has gained recognition, Christina Perri admits she’s scared its just a dream, ” One minute I didn’t exist in the music world and the next minute I did. It has been so unbelievable.” In a VH1 “Rap Sheet” interview, Perri listed John Lennon as her music idol and Paul McCartney as her dream collaboration. Christina listed nearly a dozen artists as her inspiration and influences, ranging from The Beatles, Fiona Apple, Coldplay, Jason Mraz, Adele, and Florence & the Machine. Beginning in April 2011, Christina Perri will be touring with James Blunt, beginning April 20th in Boston through May 10th in Vancouver. On May 1st, Perri will be headlining her own show in Salt Lake City at The Avalon.

Christina Perri’s album, “Love Strong” is nearly complete. Christina tweeted Feb. 25th, ” just listened to my whole 11 song album. top to bottom in my bed under the covers and cried like a baby. i am so proud of it! i can’t wait for you to hear it!! it’s everything i am. ” The album is entirely about love and heartbreak, bringing back the days of Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette. She doesn’t try to write what she thinks others want to hear, she keeps it authentic, ” writing about love and heartbreak is just who I am. I’ve tried so hard to write about other things, but ultimately this is what comes out of me. I have zero capability to do anything that is inauthentic to who I am,” said Perri. If “Love Strong” is anything like “Jar of Hearts,” which my friend called ” lyrically smart and soulful. Truthful and unabashed,” then Christina Perri is here to stay.
Beautiful, soulful and brave, artist Christina Perri has began her climb into the cut-throat music business. She has already dived in head-first with “Jar of Hearts,” that continues to stay solid on the charts. Will Christina Perri be the next Alanis Morisette?
