Many Super Bowl Fans claim all over the Internet that Christina Aguilera had the chance of a lifetime to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl but failed to deliver. At the biggest stage she sang: “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.” And then two lines later “What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming.” See link here.
The Pop Star released a statement: “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
And caught up in the moment she was. Sometimes fans wish that the National Anthem is just sang as intended without those many runs and key changes. Christina wanted to put her own stamp on it. I don’t care how cheesy it sounds but in my opinion Christina Aguilera has the voice of an angel. I am always in awe when I hear her and I often wonder why she feels the need to hide her talent behind all those gimmicks. It just doesn’t make sense. If I had a voice like hers I would bring my voice in the forefront. She seems to however concentrate on weird interviews about sexual preferences, awkward wardrobe choices and pointless attempts to put her own stamp on the National Anthem.
The talented singer is not a stranger to the Super Bowl. She performed with Enrique Iglesias as a young starlet coming straight from Disney. See here.
But from now on Aquilera will be always remembered as the women who flopped the National Anthem.
American Idols Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood have all sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl.
Jordin Sparks attempt brings tears to my eyes as it is sung so sweetly. But her version was prerecorded and she lip synced the anthem. And it is recommended by the organizers to prerecord the National Anthem. See here. .
The Super Bowl performance of Jennifer Hudson brought Hudson back in the lime light after she went on a hiatus because her brother, mother and nephew were brutally murdered. Jennifer Hudson rendition of the National Anthem was stunning and powerful. Her many acrobatic twist in her vocals didn’t seem to bother sports fans probably because we all had her tragedy still in mind. The Oscar Winner wasn’t able to smile and my heart was aching for her. Later on it was revealed that her rendition was also prerecorded.
Carrie Underwood performed the anthem last year. People praised her decision to sing it without being prerecorded ahead of time and some say her last note was off. But a lot of viewers enjoyed her singing the National Anthem as it supposed to be without any gimmicks, vocal acrobatics, runs and seemingly endless breaks.
And now we have Christina Aquilera who had not only the guts to perform the anthem a Capella but also attempted to deliver it as a peace of artwork. This decision with the addition of her deciding not to lip sync and not to prerecord may have caused her probably the biggest embarrassment in her life.
I believe we could give her a break because I think messing up in one of the biggest opportunities in our life can happen to all of us. Not to mention we know that Aquilera can sing and knows the National Anthem as she has sang it at the NBA without any problems. See here.
Making an error doesn’t mean one is not patriotic nor a lack of talent but rather that one is human.
