Days Of Our Lives fan favorite, Christie Clark is scheduled to return to Days Of Our Lives in February, reprising the role of Carrie Brady Reed.
Though the character of Carrie was originated by child actress Andrea Barber who went on to appear in Full House, most Days of Our Lives fans associate Christie Clark with an adult Carrie Brady Reed. During Christie Clarks run as Carrie Brady (starting in 1982) Carrie Brady was portrayed as the “good” Brady sister, tormented by her “bad” half sister Sami in her quest to steal Austin Reed from Carrie.
The Austin, Sami, Carrie love triangle has kept Christie Clark in front-burner storylines throughout her Days Of Our Lives career.
Christie last graced Days Of Our Lives with a cameo appearance during Days Of Our Lives tribute to Alice Horton in May 2010. Carrie returned to Salem to farewell Horton family matriarch Alice. Though Carrie is not a Horton, she grew up living next door to Alice Horton, and was briefly married to Lucas Horrton (Roberts).
But like the recent return of Melissa Reeves to the role of Jennifer Horton Devereaux , there is no news of Carries husband Austin accompanying his wife back to Salem. (Jennifer returned to Salem without Jack in November 2010).
Of course, Christie Clarks return is as yet only reported to be a short term engagement, which may leave room for Austin and Carrie’s relationship to survive her sojourn back to Salem. Presumably Austin will be too busy in Switzerland to return with his wife to Salem.
The question then begs, if Christie Clark is returning to Days Of Our Lives for an appearance as Carrie Brady only, what will be the purpose of her visit to Salem? To support her half-sister, Sami, in her fight to regain custody of her children from EJ? Sami and Carrie did appear to make amends when Carrie returned to Salem for Alice’s funeral.
Or will Carrie’s appearance perhaps provide a twist in the plot to Sami getting her children back? After all, Austin and Carrie have had Will; Sami’s first-born, live with them in Switzerland in the past. Add to that Sami’s cruel manipulations of the past where she blackmailed Lexi Carver into informing Carrie that she and Austin could never produce a healthy child, and Carrie’s subsequent inability to have children at all, and perhaps Carrie will support EJ in return for access to her nieces and nephews.
Though Carrie Brady has generally been portrayed in the “good girl” mold, precedence does exist for a darker Carrie. She did after all cheat on Austin, the love of her life, with Mike Horton. And the blonde heroine quota is surely already fulfilled by last year’s return of Jennifer Horton.
Regardless of why Carrie is returning to Salem, a short appearance means that the Carrie Brady character will be on-screen to facilitate other storylines only. Only with a long term appearance, can Christie Clark be given a front burner storyline of her own. And only then can there be any chance of Austin, her husband, returning as well.
