Chia Seeds for Weight Loss: 7 Pounds Lost in 2 Weeks

Chia seeds can help you lose weight by eliminating hunger. Legend has it that the Aztecs gave it to their soldiers and runners for energy. Chia seeds were also popular in many Native American diets.

I first tried Chia seeds while visiting my older sister in Tucson.

What I love about Chia seeds is the fact that they are so easy to eat. Yes, you can put chia seeds in smoothies, but I just like to take a full tablespoon of chia seeds and put them in my mouth. Then I swallow some water.

Chia seeds don’t have a taste. They are so small, I never have a problem swallowing them with water. I don’t really even have to chew them.

For an extra boost of nutrition, I chase the chia seeds with black cherry juice.

So why chia seeds for weight loss? Eating chia seeds is just one of many sneaky ways to lose weight or maintain your weight loss. The seeds are natural, healthy and fill you up.

What are chia seeds?

Chia seeds are from the sage plant. Native to Mexico, they contain more omega-3 fatty acids than flax seeds.

Nutritional benefits of chia seeds

When you are on a diet, you need all the nutrients you can get. Chia seeds provide vitamins and minerals. They contain high amounts of calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium and zinc.

Fiber for weight loss

Chia seeds contain soluable fiber that may help suppress hunger. An ounce of chia seeds has 137 calories and 11 grams of fiber. For people on the New Zealand Fiber and Protein Diet, chia seeds are an easy way to supplement your diet.

If you are having one tablespoon, chia seeds have no sugar, 2 grams protein, 68 calories, 5.5 grams of fiber, B vitamins, 9 percent calcium, 7 percent iron and only 2.5 mg sodium.

To lose weight with chia seeds, have the chia seeds for breakfast and prior to each meal. Drink with plenty of water. The chia seeds should provide energy for your workout and keep you satisfied so you don’t snack or overeat.

I purchased my chia seeds from Whole Foods Market, but you can find them at most health food stores. Chia seeds are fairly inexpensive. Some people like to toss them in their yogurt, salads, meatloaf or smoothies.

How much weight can you lose eating chia seeds? A friend of mine lost 7 pounds in 14 days by adding chia seeds to her Almased smoothies. Although I had trouble staying on the Almased Bikini emergency plan for more than a few days, the chia seeds helped my friend stick to the plan and lose weight.

I find chia seeds give me energy to work out longer. I highly recommend chia seeds for weight loss. If you have met your weight loss goal, chia seeds will help you stay thin.
