Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love. Historically, the norm has been a day for giving flowers, candies and balloons followed by a few “I love you’s” and moving on. If you’re ok with the norm, conform to the commercialistic impressions of yet another holiday and get her some flowers.
But, if you have read any of my relationship articles, you know that there is nothing normal from my point of view.
That’s just me guys. If you don’t want to be the loser who gives the flowers and a box of chocolates, consider this:
The Mermaid & Dolphin Resort in Galveston, Texas is an extraordinary, romantic and simply beautiful get-a-way for an intimate couple. For the History buffs, this Bed and Breakfast was built in 1866 in the classic Greek revival style and has tons of history attached to it prior to becoming a B&B in 1997.
The house itself is set in antique, elegant expressions beaming over magnificent wood floors and beautiful interior architecture. The themed guest suites, bursting with gorgeous furnishings draped in vintage coverings, antique bathtubs and luxurious beds, compliment the romantic theme of the estate. Exquisite pieces of art enchant the corridors and suites forcing beauty in every section of the house.
A sense of nostalgia, seclusion and informal elegance prevail in the tropical gardens that surround the estate. An eight foot privacy fence, draped with flowering vines, is the backdrop to graceful palms and lush undergrowth. Orchids, Staghorn Ferns, Ginger, Night Blooming Jasmine, Passionflower, Shooting Star Clerodendrum, Heliconias and Hibiscus contribute to the luxuriant foliage, vibrant color, dramatic form and captivating fragrance of the garden refuge.*
My girlfriend (at the time) and I stayed at this estate for a mini-vacation (only one night, but oh what a night!)
The estate embodies a s ultry and seductive aura that forces you to forget the stresses of the world lurking just outside of the estate walls.
When you enter your suite, a large walk-thru window leading to a Jacuzzi on the balcony summons you. This was the first thing I remember. Walking through the room I noticed the detail and beauty in the art, the furnishings and even the floor.
There was a guestbook on the antique desk filled with comments from prior guest, all written in a poetic, relaxed tone. Obviously, this was an indicator of what was to come.
I remember hearing a slight drip from the vintage claw-foot bathtub. This would have normally irritated me, but for some reason, was relaxing. Outside the window, we were drawn to the tranquil ambiance of birds twittering in the tropical garden below.
As we settled in, I remember a natural, exotic aroma in the air coming from the garden outside.
By this time, we were both so relaxed and calm that it was like we had just met. All of a sudden we were exploring each other’s unclothed bodies as if it was the first time we had ever been exposed to each other.
We spent the next six hours indulging in erotic, sexual embrace in the Jacuzzi; on the secluded balcony surrounded by the tropical garden as the sun set leading into the latter hours of the night.
For the sake of avoiding the details of the evening, I will cut it off by saying I think the attraction of this B&B lies in the atmosphere. While the facility and grounds are elegant, romantic and gorgeous, the feeling of the place is sort of out-of-body.
Unexplainable, yes. Erotic, yes. Sensual and Seductive, most defiantly.
Better than a box of chocolates and a dozen roses? Hopefully, you think so as I highly recommend The Mermaid & Dolphin Resort in Galveston, Texas to any couple as a Valentine’s Day getaway.
