Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with lots of family activities and events in New Jersey, including St. Patrick’s Day parades throughout the state.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at 1 p.m. on March 13 with acclaimed dancers from the McLoughlin School of Dance. Dressed in native costumes and dancing to Irish songs, these performers will entertain children ages 3 and older at the Saddle River Valley Cultural Center. You can purchase tickets online for $12 each or buy them at the door 15 minutes before the performance for $15
Newark will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with its 76th Annual Parade starting at 1 p.m. on March 18 from the Prudential Center in Downtown Newark.
Keyport’s 6th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Highland’s 9th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will both be on March 19. Keyport’s parade will begin at 1 p.m. The Highlands parade, with nearly 100 marching units, will begin at 2 pm from Huddy Park.
Don’t miss Lucky Leprechaun Day from 3 pm to 4 pm on March 17 at the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts in Morristown. Children ages 5 to 10 years old can learn about Irish history, join in various crafts and activities and more. Advance registration, which is recommended, can be done by calling 973-377-2982 x12. The price is $3 for each participant & regular Admission for all others.
Wear green to Imagine That! kids’ museum in Florham Park on March 17 and children will receive half-price admission.
Also on March 17, children can participate in Morris Museum’s Open Art Workshop from 3:30 pm to 6 p.m. Children of all ages can create a tie-dye shamrock for St. Patrick’s Day. The cost is $4 per child (members) and $5 per child (non-members).
The 20th Annual Somerville St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 12:30 p.m. on March 13 with Irish Dancing exhibitions performed by local dance groups. The parade starts rain or shine at 1:30 p.m. from the corner of Main and Grove Streets in Somerville. More than 80 marching units and at least 15,000 people are expected.
Horse lovers will have fun at the St. Patrick’s Day Trail Ride from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on March 13 at Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge. Riders at Intermediate 2 level and above will enjoy the trails at the walk and trot, as weather and footing allow. Register by calling 908 766-5955 and the cost is $28 for Somerset County residents and $36 for non-residents.
Kids 4 to 6 years old can learn about Ireland and its traditions, enjoy an Irish treat and take a hike to see who else is wearing green for Green is the Color, offered by the Somerset County Parks Commission. Participants are encouraged to wear green for this event from 4pm to 5:30 pm on March 17. The cost is $10 per person and people should register in advance.
Families with children ages 4 and older can Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the Blarney Boys at the Warren Township Library from 12 pm to 1 pm on March 19. Registration, which is required for this free program, can be completed by calling 908-754-5554 ext. 23 or register online.
Families with older children might enjoy Traditions of Ireland from 10 am to 1 pm on March 12 at Liberty Hall Museum in Union. This program is suggested for ages 7 to 12 years. The cost is $10 per child, including all workshop materials, and reservations are required.
