Did you ever get a song stuck in your head that just wouldn’t go away? I’m not talking about a song you hate either. I’m talking about an amazing song that grabs hold of your soul and refuses to let go? I definitely have, and it happens on a frequent basis. I am not talking about songs that everyone hears about either. These are songs with depth and meaning. Songs with a soul.
I have a really bad habit of continuously hitting the back button on my mp3 player, once a song is over. I’m actually surprised the button still works. The problem is that I get a little too attached to songs, and have to hear it, over and over again, until the song looses all of its original power. This week is no different. Here is a look at the five songs that I cannot get out of my head, and are on constant shuffle on my mp3 player.
“Airplanes” Local Natives
I adore everything about this song. From the jeering and applause from the unseen audience to the great background music, “Airplanes” keeps me singing along. I first heard this song on the radio, and didn’t catch the name. With much annoyance, I listened to the same radio station for weeks waiting to hear this song again. Finally, the station played the song three weeks later. I promptly wrote down the name of the song and downloaded it immediately.
“Boy With a Coin” Iron and Wine
Another song that I cannot get out of my head is Iron and Wine’s “Boy With a Coin”. Intricate guitar playing intertwined with what sounds like tap dancing in the background equate a delicious sound. Combine the melody with the catchy lyrics and you’ll be tapping your foot along in no time too.
“No Money” Kings of Leon
From the very first second of “No Money”, I was hooked. The brilliant guitar playing lured me in, and the Kings of Leon front man Caleb Followill’s voice sealed the deal. A very catchy, yet solid track.
“Moon and Moon” Bat for Lashes
Another song that caught my attention and hasn’t let up since is “Moon and Moon” by Bat for Lashes. Brilliantly written and orchestrated, “Moon and Moon” is a beautiful and memorable song that keeps me singing along.
“Armchairs” Andrew Bird
Andrew Bird’s music has a very special place in my heart. His songs move me. One such song is “Armchairs”. It starts off sweetly, beautifully and escalates, rising with intensity and longing. The melody is flawless and Bird’s voice is nothing to scoff at.
