More Carmelo Anthony trade rumors involve the New York Knicks again. These latest Carmelo Anthony trade rumors involve the Knicks, the Denver Nuggets, and now the Memphis Grizzlies. Apparently when Denver threatened the New Jersey Nets about leaking trade discussions to the press, the Knicks saw an opportunity to jump back into the discussions to try and acquire Anthony. On Thursday night, it appears that there are actually discussions now that involve teams other than the Nets and Detroit Pistons.
According to ESPN, talks between the Knicks, Nuggets, and Grizzlies are in their infant stages and nothing is imminent, but the discussions show signs that the Knicks are still aggressively pursuing Anthony at this time. It appears that the Knicks have tried to convince Memphis to become part of this deal so that more players could enter into the agreement that the Nuggets would be interested in acquiring. The primary addition to these new trade talks is apparently Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo, who could be another young asset that could help the Nuggets during a rebuilding process.
There are no clear trade proposals out there between this set of three teams, so it’s hard to project which players would be going to each organization. It’s unclear what the Knicks have told Memphis that they could get out of the deal, as it seems they would definitely need an asset or two in return if they are going to trade away Mayo. Maybe Memphis is hoping for more future draft picks, something that the Knicks would be more than willing to give up if it meant that they could get Anthony on the team right now. The other question in this discussion is just how much the Knicks are willing to give up from a roster that has shown a lot of improvement this season.
Some of the players that could end up being involved in a deal between these three teams might be J.R. Smith, Chauncey Billups, Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph, Landry Fields, or Danilo Gallinari. We will surely hear about the names of the players that the Nuggets and Grizzlies might be interested in this three-team deal very soon, but until that point it is just a guessing game. This could be a huge swing of momentum for the Knicks and their fans, especially since it seemed like the Nets were within moments of acquiring Anthony, and it was just down to the final details. Things are bound to remain interesting right through the NBA trade deadline at this point.
