A Carmelo Anthony trade might have been accepted by the New Jersey Nets. A report has the Carmelo Anthony trade going down, and that it is just waiting on Anthony accepting an extension with his new team. There is also another report that claims the trade is far from going down, and that it is just another rumor. It does seem though, that discussions are taking place, and that nobody should be surprised if Carmelo Anthony is traded by the end of the weekend.
According to ESPN, it is The Bergen Record that is reporting the trade has been agreed to already. That deal would apparently send Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Melvin Ely, and Ronaldo Balkman from the Nuggets to the New Jersey Nets. The Nets would then send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Troy Murphy, Den Uzoh, and four first round draft picks back to Denver.
The deal seems like a huge one, and it seems a bit odd that the Nets would be willing to give up so many draft picks. Losing four first round selections could really hamper the team, especially if they are going to make the trade in the hopes that Anthony will sign an extension. There were reports that Anthony was going to meet with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, but it is also unclear if those rumors were true either.
Is the Record right in their claims that this trade has already been accepted? It seems pretty unlikely, but we will see at the NBA All-Star weekend progresses.
