This is an ongoing account of my struggles with the CANDIDA FUNGUS OVERGROWTH. Please do not use the information to diagnose or treat yourself. If you think you have this debilitating condition, please seek medical attention.
I am an overweight, 54 year old, post menopausal female that smokes. Let’s get that out of the way first. I am not a health freak or a vegan. I’m a gal from Texas that grew up on Tex-Mex food and I love my flour tortillas and rice. But not for a while due to an effort to improve my diet. I’ve been struggling to find an answer for my health issues.
Today was spent in our local Emergency Room. CORRECTION: Today was WASTED in our local Emergency Room. I’m not going to name the institution, but I live in Kerrville Texas, a one hospital town. So you figure it out. What is up with the attitude of today’s Physicians? I came prepared. I had a zip-lock baggie with my supplements and a list of my symptoms in hand. She did not even look at any of it. I told her of my research to find an answer to this awful bloating and weakness. I told her that I had a strong inclination that it is from a MYCIAL CANDIDA OVERGROWTH acquired from extensive use of antibiotics.
So this 30-something Chickie-Doctor-Pooh informed me that I should leave the diagnostics to a physician and that I was not helping myself by going online. And that she would order the lab work necessary to diagnose me. She also reprimanded me that the ER is not the place to get treatment for my complaints since it is not an emergency. So I shot back, “REALLY? I thought it would be the other way around. I was under the impression that if you knew my symptoms, you could better order lab work suited for me.” Well that remark set the tone for the rest of my ER visit. It took 5 hours to find out that my basic vitals are tip-top. OK, then. Thanks.
I questioned if she ran any tests to find a fungal overgrowth or anything to do with Leaky Gut Syndrome? Blood Gasses, etc. I was HONESTLY told this: “No, because your white blood cell count is fine. You do not have an infection. You’ve been spouting a lot of medical jargon. So, I’m referring you to Dr. (Name Withheld) for further analysis. She is a Psychiatrist and quite good at what she does.” FLOORED, absolutely floored. This was a Urination Contest and she had just won. I could feel the blood leave my face and my jaw drop. Just pitiful. I am a hugely bloated, pasty colored, constipated, muscle quivering, weak lump of a human with my heart about to pound out of my chest and I was not tested correctly, nor treated for anything and thoroughly humiliated in the process.
And that’s where we are in America today. Just shameful. By now you probably know all of the symptoms associated with fungal overgrowth, so I’m not going to list them. But, I have them all. When I got home, I went straight to the computer… yet again. This has been my FOURTH attempt at treatment during the past year. Today was awesome for me AFTER the ER episode because something FINALLY sunk into my old thick noggin. VEGETABLES. Heard of them. Seen them. Ate a few from time to time. Aren’t they that pile of decoration on the #4 Mexican Special Plate? Heard all about how we are supposed to eat so many during the course of a day, blah, blah, blah…
But today, the light went on. It has to do with ACID vs. ALKALINE. My Ta-Dah Moment. Everything I’ve eaten in my life was ganging up on me and I am losing the battle. So today begins a new chapter in my life titled “VEGETABLES”. Candida thrives and flourishes in an Acidic, oxygen poor environment. Then I read that many illnesses and diseases thrive in that type of diet also. I learned about pH levels of foods and how they attribute to our health or lack thereof. When you re-balance your body’s pH and make it more alkaline, then the viruses, bacteria, yeasts and other pathogens cannot survive. These micro-forms all need an acidic medium to survive. Degenerative diseases cannot gain a foothold in an alkaline environment. Ta-Dah! Light Bulb Moment.
How come “THEY” don’t tell us THAT? How come we never hear THAT? The road ahead of me is much shorter than the road behind me and I should have known that. Well, now I do and I will put it into practice. I also found out that RAW vegetables are better than cooked ones because we need those RAW ENZYMES to break down or aid in digesting our food. So, I stuck a nice assortment in the blender and was planning on living life as a JUICER FREAK… all the way up to actually drinking the stuff. That was not what I consider something to live on.
If you know anything about CANDIDA, then you should know that at some point in time you will SEE particles of UNDIGESTED food in your stool. Not the occasional piece of unchewed corn. Pieces of identifiable undigested food about that size. Go ahead, look next time. That points towards a long term Candida infection. It means your system is not processing what you’re throwing down it. It means you aren’t getting the nutrients that you NEED to survive. In other words, you are suffering from MAL-ABSORPTION. That’s another word I threw at the Doctor today. Me and my mouth…
I have found a way to get those vegetables down my gullet. One chicken bullion cube in 2 cups of filtered water, nuked to boiling and stirred until dissolved. Then I grated so many wonderful, fresh veggies into that. Added some garlic powder, cracked black pepper and a squirt of fresh lemon juice. SOUP. Soup with RAW veggies. It was divine and it’s something that I can live on. I can add different spices, herbs or tomato base and a small quantity of meat to change it up.
Over the course of this past month, I’ve thrown out the decaf, the Sweet N’ Low, the non-dairy creamer, the bread, the flour, sugar, rice, noodles, potatoes, shortening, milk… basically ALL of the white foods. They are ACIDIC. They pave the road to illness and disease. It ain’t got NOTHING to do with Atkins or South Beach or Nutri-System, none of it. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
So when THEY say you should take control of your own health, that’s wonderful. But THEY don’t tell us HOW. THEY don’t tell us WHY. Today was awesome on so many levels for me. It reinforced my belief that the American medical community is a bunch of over-educated dumb-bunnies lacking common sense or even decency. That ER Doctor could have treated ME, the person today. But she has been taught to look at the numbers on a lab printout. She has been taught to treat whatever that tells her. She did not look farther. She did not care and I thought that’s why they went into medicine in the first place. Is it just my little one horse town or is it rampant?
Today, I learned the value and importance of eating 80% alkaline foods EVERYDAY. Today, I ordered the $50. package of THREELAC Probiotics, specifically tailored to fight Candida. Today, I learned how to best combat illnesses in my future and in the present. Today, I am ill, but I have a smile and determination. But gosh, I miss my flour tortillas…
