Call of Duty: Black Ops is arguably one of the best Call of Duty games to date. Although many people will claim that it’s bad just because it’s made by Treyarch, this isn’t true. Call of Duty: Black Ops continues on the multiplayer tradition that has made Call of Duty one of the most popular game franchises to date; albeit with several new features. This article will hopefully help you a bit with your Black Ops multiplayer skills.
Tip 1: Sprint Everywhere. Sprinting is the easiest and fastest way to get around the battlefield. You can also escape from a firefight you’re about to lose or come to the aid of one of your teammates. Sprinting exponentially increases your speed, thus increasing your combat efficieny. Taking perks like Lightweight and Marathon can make you even faster, and if you get the pro version of those perks you’ll take no damage for falls and have unlimited sprint, making you a mobile killing machine. Speed is essential in multiplayer.
Tip 2: Cover your tracks. One of the best things you can do is to place traps for enemies hunting for you or your teammates. Whether or not an enemy knows where you were does not matter; killing said enemy does. If you enter a building, place a claymore out of sight at the entrance, or at the very least place a camera spike to monitor it. The claymore will eliminate the threat altogether, but at least the camera spike will tell you if theres an incoming threat. Placing a claymore is like camping, except you aren’t even there and you don’t have to worry about having your camping spot given away.
Tip 3: Camp smart. If you’re going to camp, do it the smart way. You don’t even need a sniper rifle to successfully camp and get a nice string of kills and you can easily send out your killstreak rewards from the relative safety of your ‘smart’ camping spot. To ‘camp smart’ all you really have to do is find a decently shadow corner and go prone. Most people are on the look out for active threats, therefore many people will be too inattentive to see you lying on the ground. When they run in the door just gun them down. You can even do this with a two door facility (such as the red-light building on the firing range map) by just setting up a camera spike in front of one of the entrances. When you see someone run in you can just jump up and gun them down. Be careful not to stay in one spot too long, people wise up pretty fast. If you can find an object to crawl behind, you can easily active killstreak rewards. Combine this tip with the tip above to create a great defensive strategy.
Tip 4: Utilize your perks! Use the ninja perk to silently sneak up on your enemies or even combine it with the ghost and warlord perks to be a multi-utility commando. Use the Flak Jacket perk to combat explosive-happy opponents and combine it with Sleight of Hand and Second Chance to be a speed-reloading explosive proof juggernaut; you may surprise someone with that second chance and end up getting a few more kills. With the pro version of Second Chance you could even get revived by one of your teammates. I once saw a game ending kill from a guy who was on his second chance and finished his would-be killer with a pistol.
Tip 5: Guesstimate you enemy’s position. When one of your teammates dies, a skull and arrow appear on your map, showing you their recent death spot and where you can probably find enemy troop. Be careful around these areas because it’s likely that there are enemies still running around near them. With some recklessness, you’ll get yourself killed. With some planning, skill, and luck you could get yourself a few more kills.
These may be somewhat general tips, but hopefully they’ll help you out a bit and give you a bit of a reference point when designing your classes and fighting against opponents online. Good luck, and happy shooting!
