by tree pony

Heart of the Wolf is the first book in the Werewolf series by the award winning author, Terry Spear. Terry Spear is an author who writes Scottish Medieval, historical, romantic suspense, and Urban Fantasy romance. I became interested in reading this author and her books when I went searching on-line for more paranormal books and came across her books. After I went to her website and read about the books that she had written; I made the decision to go ahead and read her books. After reading Heart of the Wolf, I was intrigued and wanted to read more. Terry Spear has a way of writing that draws you in and wanting more. If you have a love of animals, especially wolves, then you will definitely enjoy these books. Her research and love for wolves shines through as you are reading the first book. Heart of the Wolf tells the story about Devlyn Greystoke and Bella Wilder, both werewolves who are on a collusion course with the past and their future.

Bella Wilder is a loner; has been since she left the pack that had raised her after the death of her family. She had no choice but to leave her pack since the alpha leader was determined to make her his. Only thing was that Bella loved another and could not have him. Bella and the others like her were what they called lupus garou. They looked human but were able to shape shift into wolves and they had it ingrained into them that they must keep what they are a secret. Bella is a red werewolf but the pack that took her in are gray werewolves and reds are rare in the area where she was living. Due to the fact that she had to leave, she left everything behind and tried to get on with her life. She made a life for herself elsewhere and now has heard of red headed human women being killed and suspects that her kind are killing females in order to turn them into what they are. She also suspects that reds are killing them in order to find and claim her for their own.

Devlyn Greystoke is on a mission for his pack and has orders to bring Bella back to the pack. He feels that he has no choice in the matter since he is not the leader, has this need to bring her back before she lets everyone know what they are, and also feels that he cannot win in a battle to the death with the alpha, Volan Smith. So he makes the decision to locate and bring her back to the pack. Of course, Bella is equally determined to not go back and makes sure he knows how she feels. Bella feels that if Devlyn tries to claim her, he will be killed by Volan. Devlyn feels differently and wants to claim her, but feels that she doesn’t belong to him.

Bella is determined to find out who is killing women and will do what it takes to bring the killer to justice. If she has to be the one to flush him out, then so be it. She will not go back to the pack as long as Volon is the leader and wants someone who will feel that she is equal; and she feels, is Devlyn, having loved him since she was a child. As time goes on and they fight to find the killer, their longing for the other grows but they fight with everything they have not to give in. It is only when Bella encounters problems will both of them find out they cannot fight what they have together. It will take everything they have to make it work between them and also catch the killers before life as they know it is destroyed. In one of the most thrilling climaxes ever in a paranormal romance, Devlyn will finally have a confrontation with Volon that was years in the making. Will Devlyn win? Will Devlyn and Bella be able to finally have that life they so want together? Or will Volon win and be able to claim Bella for his own? To find out, you will have to read the story about Bella and Devlyn.

Terry Spears is a wonderful new author for me to find and I am sure glad that I have. I was fascinated and intrigued by the story that she weaved. I am an animal lover, especially wolves, and this story just grabbed me and held on. She makes the werewolf world more real in her books and makes you feel that you want more. Unlike some authors who write about slayers and so forth, she takes a different take and tells the story about the wolves and their way of life. I look forward to reading her other books in the series and see where she takes them in the future.
