The Boardwalk Empire season finale airs for the first time tonight on HBO. The Boardwalk Empire season finale is called “Return to Normalcy”, setting up season two, and possibly predicting what might take place in the final episode. The first season of Boardwalk Empire has ushered in a new type of show for the network, and they have done well to not only present an exciting show, but to encompass a time period that hadn’t received this type of treatment on television before. Now the first season of this very promising show comes to a close, and there are bound to be some surprises for fans.
Season two of Boardwalk Empire is going to have a lot to live up to, because the writing and direction of the show has been pretty great so far. The central plot of the show is the politics of Atlantic City, with many subplots taking place during the prohibition era of the country. Gangsters, alcohol providers, prohibition agents, and everyone that comes into contact with them play a part in this show. The main character can be said to be Nucky Thompson, the Atlantic City treasurer, who seems to have his hands in everything that takes place within the county. Thompson is played by Steve Buscemi, taking on a very serious acting challenge, and one that has rebuilt his career in the industry.
This is a show that should make a mark when the next Emmy Award nominations come out, and it is quite remarkable how much that the show has been able to cover in just its first 12 episodes. This is a show that wouldn’t have been able to fare as well on a typical network schedule, but which has taken its opportunity to flourish on HBO this year.
The pilot episode received a lot of attention for how much that director Martin Scorsese spent on getting it to the screen, but the show has proven to be quite worth it. Debuting in the fall of 2010, the show will end its first season on Dec. 5, 2010, as elections become the main focus of episode number 12. Will Thompson stay in power? Or is someone new going to step in and not only control Atlantic City, but create chaos for the way that things have worked for song? This could turn into an epic finale for the show, depending on how the subplots are brought to a close for this season. It is also surely going to set up a number of cliffhangers, in addition to the ones that came about at the end of the eleventh episode.
