Each year many hundreds of women are first time mothers and as they consider the day their child will enter the world, they must choose which way the child will enter the world. Many birthing options are available and each are safe choices, but a mother must decide which she feels is best for her and her new baby.I would recommend that the woman speak to her doctor, OB-GYN, or even a midwife to see which one they are most comfortable with and to make sure that when the big day arrives, there are no surprises for patient or doctor.
This is the most common form of child birth. About 3/4 of all pregnant women choose to deliver vaginally each year and some might opt to have pain medication, but the vaginal birth is still the most popular. A woman’s body is made to have children and when the time for the baby to be delivered arrives, no matter how scared the mother is or how much she feels she does not know about the birthing procedure, she can rest assured that for the most part her body sees it as a natural procedure.
This is becoming a much more accepted form of child birth and many women are choosing this as the way for their child to enter the world. Many hospitals are offering this form of child birth and see it as an added comfort for both mother and baby. With a water birth, the mom will labor and/or deliver in water that is 90-100 degrees. The temperature of the water seems to ease the mother’s pain and will comfort the baby as though it is still in the womb. The baby is immediately removed from the water and placed in mom’s arms to provide the love and warmth that they need at that moment.
Hypnobirthing is another form of natural childbirth, but involves self- hypnosis as a form of pain management. This form of hypnosis involves a form of relaxation which is obtained through positive suggestion, imagery, and deep breathing in which helps the woman to strive to be stress free during the birthing experience. Any mother to be who is considering this method should check with their doctor and local hospital to see if they offer the classes to help them learn the proper technique of hypnobirthing.
There are many other choices out there and any mother-to-be should just keep researching birthing options and talking with the professionals to see what options there are and what the benefits of each are. The obstetrician who will be in the room with you should be aware of what your option is going to be before the day of delivery. It is important that you are both knowledgeable in the method in order for the day to go as smooth as possible. Most hospitals will offer classes in several of the options and will be able to offer advice on each option.
In central Indiana, the choices for childbirth methods is fairly open depending on which hospital the mother will be at. St. Francis, for example offers prenatal classes as well as sibling classes and tours of the OB units. They also have 15 private labor and delivery rooms with 21 private post partum rooms and 8 private antepartum rooms.
At Clarian Health, natural birth and water births are both widely done on a daily basis. The hospital also offers certified midwives and doulas on staff and they are bi-lingual in order to aid in the birthing experience of the many Spanish speaking patients that this hospital sees on a monthly basis. Clarian also offers a unique service that allows a nurse to visit the mother and baby at home a few days after the baby goes home from the hospital in order to answer any questions the new mother might have.
Whichever childbirth method you choose is acceptable. Make sure that you research all options and that you take advantage of the advice that the doctor, midwife, Douala, or hospital can offer as well. The day that your child arrives you should feel comfortable and at ease with the decision that you have made.
