As I look ahead at the full year of 2011 I see many trials and challenges. If you live in the United States especially, this year will be tough financially. The economic picture is not getting better in spite of the rosy headlines about a recovery. With real unemployment/underemployment according to Shadowstats at over 20% and no end in sight, things look dismal especially with no end to government solutions that only make matters worse. America has traditionally been a country where if you worked hard enough you could make it but now that is much harder to say. In fact if you work hard you almost feel like you are the only one doing so. And with inflation eating into any of the nominal wage gains you receive it is tough to feel like the “American Dream” can apply to you today.
I often get down and depressed when looking at the mess the Federal Reserve, the United States Congress, current President Barack Obama and many previous Presidents have gotten us into. Of course the unconstitutional ( Discussion On) Federal Reserve I blame the most for enabling the rampant spending by Congress and not keeping to their tenet ( Proof ) of maintaining a stable currency. A downward arrow is what the chart of the purchasing power of the dollar looks like since 1913 when the Federal Reserve took over and started charging our government and thereby us interest to print money that the U.S. Treasury can do itself. Why is it that both parents have to work now? Why is it that there is a growing divide between the rich and the poor now? But instead of being negative about it I have decided to try to give all this frustration to God as a Christian. I hope these texts will help you get through the economic and financial trials we will face this year on a daily basis. If you are a Christian and struggle with these same things I hope this helps.
Philippians 4:12 NLT
I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
My prayer is that God will show me how to be content with what I have this year. I pray God will help me stop this endless thought of needing to get ahead in this world and to rely on him because there is no recession with Him. May I be satisfied with Him alone no matter the situation!
James 5:3 NIV
Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.
This you might not consider as a promise necessarily but it sure is a frightful threat promise indeed. Scary is what it is. It gets me to the core. Since I am a fan of gold and silver and like to purchase them as a guard against government and inflation this really hits me. I know the end is near and I don’t want to be the idiot “Christian” who is trying to hoard my silver and not help others with it or extend the reach of the gospel like I should. My prayer here is that this promise I do not fulfill; that the Lord will help me give away everything I have for the continuation of His work to prepare hearts for His soon return. Also everything I have truly does belong to Him anyway; may I put it in His care too.
Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Listen to the words of Jesus! Many times I am missing the big picture. Heaven is where we are headed. Why do we worry so much about petty finances and money in our lives? This world is not our home we don’t belong here, right? Remember to read your bible and ask Jesus to come into your life and mold you into the person He wants you to be. Spend time with your Savior and Lord and he will store up treasure in heaven for you. As a Christian my prayer is that I will make spending time with Him a priority and store up treasure in heaven so I will be ready for Him when He returns.
Matthew 6:24 NIV
“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”
The interesting thing about this verse is what is after it 25-34 of Matthew 6. Read it! It is all about not worrying. Isn’t money a constant worry? Christians should only serve one master but I know many struggle with money as do I. In America this is hard because money is such a big part of our life. Wouldn’t it be easier to follow the do not worry about what you will eat or wear thing if we really had no clothing or food? I don’t know? It would almost be better to have less like those in poverty stricken regions where every meal is a blessing from God. The promise here is that if you serve money as your master you won’t serve God. I pray that I can give up money as my master and let God supply all my needs.
Revelation 21:3,4 NIV
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Redemption! Remember that the reward for a Christian is immeasurable. No more crying can you even comprehend it? Of course if you are a Christian by name only this will not be fun for you therefore you won’t be invited.Let Christ into your heart today! Satan rebelled in heaven against God and against his perfect law and Adam and Eve believed his lies. We would have been lost eternally and enslaved to this wicked world forever except for the plan that was formed from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8) that resulted in the perfect Son of God being led as a lamb to the slaughter for us. My prayer here is that I will see this day, that nothing will come in between my relationship with my God, my Savior and Lord and especially not money. Thank you God for sending Jesus your Son to die for us thereby counting us perfect in your sight and restoring us soon to live with You forever and ever!!!
