When thinking of places to go to find fantastic Indian food, most people wouldn’t think of Elmwood Park. Yet nestled in the center of a mini strip mall is Bhoj Indian Restaurant. I have visited Bhoj around half a dozen times and I guarantee that if you visit, you will keep coming back for more too.
The atmosphere at Bhoj Indian Restaurant is clean and inviting. Bhoj is simply decorated, focused more on functionality, than on personality. Fun and upbeat music is always playing to keep the mood light and fun. Any who have the misconception that all Indian restaurants leave you smelling like curry can just erase those thoughts, because that has never happened after a visit to Bhoj.
The service at Bhoj Indian Restaurant has always been superb. All the wait staff speaks English, so don’t worry if you don’t Hindi or Gujarati! The waiters have always been very attentive, constantly refilling our glasses. The manager usually comes out and asks each table how their food is, and if they need any adjustment on spice level. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful.
The food is why I can’t keep away from Bhoj Indian Restaurant. Everything tastes fresh and flavorful. There are plenty menu options for both Vegetarians and Omnivores alike. For those newer to Indian cuisine, try their Vegetable Samosa’s which are puffed pastry triangles stuffed with seasoned potatoes and peas. For your entrée, you have an array to choose from, including South Indian cuisine, Tandoori specialties and various Biryani. As a vegan myself, my personal favorite is the Chaana Masala which is chickpeas cooked in a spicy tomato sauce. I am told that the Lamb Vindaloo, which is lamb cooked in a traditional spicy sauce, is fantastic. This isn’t your regular old Tabasco sauce hot, this is real heat. If you’re not a fan of hot spices, let your waiter know. Most dishes can be toned down, but if not, your waiter can help you choose according to your palate. They are very generous in their portions, so you won’t leave hungry.
The lunch buffet at Bhoj Indian Restaurant is $9.95 and offered M-F from 11:30a – 2:30p and is $11.95 from 12:30p – 3:30p on the weekends. A buffet is a great way for someone who is new to Indian food to explore what it has to offer. A spread of various meats, bean and vegetable dishes line the wall, eagerly waiting for you to choose. Don’t go in for the kill by loading up on only one dish. This is your opportunity to try a little bit of everything, without making any commitments. Experiment and grab a little of something you wouldn’t ordinarily try. You won’t be sorry!
The prices at Bhoj Indian Restaurant are very affordable. Appetizers range from $1.95 to $10.95, vegetarian entrees run from $8.95 to $12.95 and meat options from 12.95 to $18.95. Most entrees don’t come with rice or bread, so don’t forget to order basmati rice and naan bread to compliment your meal.
I have never left Bhoj Indian Restaurant dissatisfied. The service is great, and the food is even better. Take the trip out to visit Bhoj Indian Restaurant the next time you are in the mood to wake up your taste buds. With their authentic Indian cuisine, you’ll be coming back for more!
TIP: Make a reservation if you plan on visiting Friday or Saturday night. With a small entryway, there isn’t much room for waiting guests, I can personally attest to this.
