Abraxas Books, at 256 S. Beach Street, is nestled in next to the Halifax Historical Museum in a the old section of downtown Daytona Beach. Once inside the door, customers are met by Sterling the Cat who has a perfect pencil-thin white mustache. Over 100,000 used books on almost any subject are waiting to be taken home. Customers may buy, sell or trade. Author signed books such as the George Carlin’s, Brain Droppings or the screenplay Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World signed by the director Stanley Kramer are available to purchase. Daytona Books and Metaphysics opened in 2011 at 125 W. International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach. The shop specializes in metaphysical goods and services. They sell new metaphysical books and have over 35,000 used books in stock. In addition to book sales, customers may receive psychic readings, aura reports, and spiritual healing. The shop has a crystal bed such as the one used by John of God, the famous healer in Brazil. There is a room available for rent large enough to accommodate 100 people. The Family Book Shop at 1301 N. Woodland Boulevard in DeLand has been serving the area since the 1970’s. The building has several rooms with approximately 200,000 books on a variety of subjects and 400 new select magazine titles. They take books on trade. Three felines are at home in the stacks: Schuster, Ink and Smudge. Author book signings are scheduled throughout the year. They are open from 10:00am – 6:00pm Monday through Saturday and from 11:00am – 4:00pm on Sundays in November and December. Founded in 1980, The Muse Book Shop at 112 South Woodland Boulevard in downtown DeLand has new, used and antiquarian books dating as far back as the 1700’s. Can’t find a particular title? They will order books and search for out-of-print books. Local, regional and national authors hold signing events at the shop. Customers celebrating their birthdays will receive 15 percent off of their entire purchase and receive a special birthday gift.
