I don’t know about any of you but I am so stoked about the new television series “Being Human” coming out in January on the Syfy channel. I’m probably just as excited about these episodes as I was when Vampire Diaries or Supernatural debuted, maybe more so. Reason being, the show contains three of my most favorite characters; Vampires, ghosts, and werewolves. Oh! You can also toss in a couple of zombies with that mixture as well. Sounds like thriller vs. comedy heaven to me.
Further investigation of this show led me to find out some particular interesting information that I hadn’t known. For instance, “Being Human” had been a series two other times prior, premiering on the BBC Three, the first pilot episode aired in February 2008 and the second in January 2010. It was created and written by Toby Whithouse and proved to be one of the most popular shows on BBC’s iPlayer.
A few changes have been made with the characters with an addition of a few others (zombies and more werewolves) but the plot basically stays the same. The location is also changing from Bristol which is where the first two series’ filmed to Cardiff and some filming in Cowbridge.
“Being Human” is a show about three young roommates who respectively try to live out their lives as normal as possible even though they are a lot more than just human. They have to find a way to balance out their double lives while keeping it a secret. Aidan, one of the original characters in the series is played by Sam Witwere. Aidan is a vampire. He is a nurse at a hospital and he takes comfort in helping people find peace with death. Sam Huntington is casted as Josh, the werewolf. Josh was basically lost as a werewolf until he meets Aiden and developed a friendship which allowed him to have the possibility of a normal life. Though nothing compared to med school, Aiden secured Josh a job as an orderly in the hospital. Then there is Sally, played by Meaghan Rath. In life Sally was taught to be tough. She had dreams of working for the U.N. or attending grad school. During college Sally fell in love. Sally and her boyfriend had occupied the same house that she is now sharing with Aidan and Josh, but now as a ghost she is constantly questioning the reason behind her early demise.
Other characters in the series include Bishop, played by Mark Pelligrino. Bishop is a lieutenant of a police department and a leader of a legion of vampires. He’s constantly trying to coerce Aidan to join his band of beastly blood suckers and he doesn’t give up easily.
Now add in a few more werewolves, some walking dead zombies and you’ll be in for a wild ride.
The series will air on the SyFy channel Monday, January 17th 9/8c. Get out your popcorn or your favorite bowl of ice cream and enjoy my prediction of the best series thus far on SyFy.
