The Jersey Shore shot into fame with a cast of self-proclaimed Guidos and Guidettes, whose personalities come as colorful as a box of crayons. The hard-partying, hard-drinking, hard-smushing bunch – with their big hair, fake tan and bigger personalities – took over our television by a storm. We can’t get enough of the Jersey Shore drama, which somehow always heightens into a screaming fight, profanities and fists flying.
With MTV’s genius casting, Jersey Shore‘s cast of young men and women went from nobodies to America’s most famous reality stars. So who were Snooki, Jwoww, The Situation, Pauly, Vinny, Sammi and Ronnie before they came to the shore? Let’s find out.
Before the shore, Snooki was living in Marlboro, New York and working as a vegetarian technician. Born in Santiago, Chile in 1987, the 23-year-old was adopted at the age of 6 months.
Growing up in a community heavily influenced by the Italian American culture, Snooki, whose real name is Nicole Catherine Polizzi, grew to appreciate “Gorilla Juiceheads” and the “pouf”. She was a cheerleader in high school, battled an eating disorder and went to community college – a pretty humble beginning for someone who makes $30,000 per episode on Jersey Shore.
Jwoww, or Jenni Farley, was quite the head turner even before Jersey Shore. In fact, that’s how she was nicknamed “Jwoww”, because guys used to “wow” at her. She was born in Franklin Square, New York, in 1986, and moved to New York City at the age of 21.
As a student of computer science and graphic design, Jwoww launched her own graphic design business, Jenni Farley Designs, Inc. She also worked as the Vice President of marketing for a social networking site called IgnitionNation.com. To add more to her resume, Jwoww started JWOWW Promotions, a club promoting company that focuses on a more personal touch to club promotion.
Finally, Jwoww stumbled upon Jersey Shore and has been marketing her many talents to a wider audience ever since.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, was born in Staten Island in 1982 and grew up in the well-to-do town of Malanapan, New Jersey. He worked as a male stripper, an underwear model and a manager at a fitness center before rising to fame through Jersey Shore. Now “The Situation” is a household name with his famous belly-baring move that shows off his chiseled abs. “The Situation” also starred on Dancing with the Stars and had his own workout video.
Long before the Jersey Shore, Pauly D turned his love for music into a profitable venture, by DJing music for parties and clubs. After years of mastering his DJ skills, finding a niche sound and spreading his infectious personality, Pauly D is now DJing in major clubs across the country. Of course the popularity of Jersey Shore helped, but this Guido definitely had a lot of talent on his own.
Born to Puerto Rican and Italian parents, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro is one hot combination. This bad boy often finds himself in a brawl. But really Ronnie is a softie at heart, who fell for roommate Sammi. From the Bronx, New York, Ronnie was just another hard-partying Guido before entering Jersey Shore. Now he makes $20,000 for hosting a party and even more money with product endorsements.
A self-proclaimed serial dater, Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola always had a boyfriend. When she first stepped onto the Jersey Shore, a single Sammi didn’t stay single for long before hooking up with fellow roommate Ronnie.
Born and growing up in Hazlet, New Jersey, Sammi is the middle of three girls. She played soccer at the William Patterson University and majored in sociology.
Deena Nicole Cortesse is Snooki’s long-time friend and comes from New Egypt, New Jersey. She auditioned for Jersey Shore season 1 but was rejected. Thanks to her famous friend Snooki, Deena got her chance on the show for season 3.
Before the show, Deena was just another outgoing 23-year-old who attended community college and was on the cheering squad. Now she is partying with the Jersey Shore gang and filming their fourth season in Italy.
