Battle of the Boroughs Talent Quest 2011

by tree pony

New York City is getting ready for the second annual Battle of the Boroughs Talent Quest to kick off. Last year, over 160 artists and 45 groups performed at The Greene Space and had their performances webcast. The Greene Space’s Battle of the Boroughs is a fantastic platform for the best underground and undiscovered performers in New York City.

Battle of the Boroughs is open to bands, vocalists, DJs, ensembles, instrumentalists and spoken word artists from all genres. Each artist must submit a photo and an audio or video clip showcasing their talent. All submissions for the 2011 contest are due December 31st, 2010 at 11:59pm. A team of WNYC/WQXR staff and hosts select artists based on four criteria: technical excellence, innovation, artistry, and performance quality. This is a fantastic opportunity for local artists to showcase their fresh new work to a broader audience.

At 4pm on Monday, January 17, 2011, The Greene Space will announce the 8-10 artists that will represent each of the 5 New York City boroughs, totaling 40-50 artists for the competition. Those chosen artists will then go on to perform in the First Friday’s monthly series presented at The Greene Space to a live audience and webcast audience following this schedule:

o February 4 @ 7 pm – BROOKLYN
o March 4 @ 7 pm – QUEENS
o April 1 @ 7 pm – THE BRONX
o May 6 @ 7 pm – STATEN ISLAND
o June 3 @ 7pm – MANHATTAN

The live and webcast audience for each of these events will vote for their favorite artist of the night. Once each borough has competed and winners have been chosen, the borough winners will compete in a semi-final concert event on Friday, June 17th at 7pm. The winner is then chosen based equally on votes from the panel of judges, in-house audience and webcast audience. The grand prize winner is announced that night at 11pm.

The winner of Battle of the Boroughs will have a featured concert at The Greene Space which will be videocast live via their website, as well as the opportunity to be an opening act at New York City’s SummerStage Concert 2011 presented on the main stage in New York City’s Central Park. The SummerStage Concert in Central Park is both a local favorite and tourist must see. The opportunity to showcase your talent before this audience is amazing.

Don’t forget to tune in to The Greene Space during each borough’s competition of Battle of the Boroughs and vote for your favorite artists of the night. Then check out the SummerStage Concert during the summer of 2011 for a taste of the best New York City has to offer.
