When I review a movie or a video game I try to review it as to how the average person might be entertained by it. Not reviewing it the way some of the well known journalists might review it. Most of them if its been done before will knock it for that when really what has not been done before?
Battle LA, first off let me start by saying get all of your snacks before the movie and go to the bathroom before the movie.
I wanted to see this movie as soon as I had seen it advertised. I had seen Skyline which was a good movie and even though this movie looked good in the advertisements I did not think it would be as good as Skyline, by the way if you have not seen Skyline get it or rent it when it comes out on DVD.
Where Skyline pretty much shows civilians trying to survive a massive Alien invasion, Battle LA shows the battle between our Marines and the Aliens.
This movie starts out action packed from the begining, we see on newscast meteors about to hit most areas of the Earth with the military being called into action to help evacuate those areas, but then the movie flashes back to 24 hrs before all this happens to introduce us to its cast of characters.
We see a SSgt in the Marines about to retire who cannot get over the fact that in his last campaign he lost all of his men and he survived.
We get introduced to a young LT who just out of officers training school is about to be called in to help the evacuation of the civilians about to leave behind his pregnant wife not knowing the horror he is about to face.
We are introduced to a Marine who is in the midst of planning his wedding with his fiancee.
Next we are introduced to a young Marine whose brother was just killed in the campaign with the SSgt mentioned above.
After that we go to the present time and hear on the news that the meteors have fallen and have hit parts of the planet already, but then it is discovered these are not meteors but we are as a planet being attacked, now instead of the Marines being called in to evacuate they are now being called into action.
The aforementioned SSgt is now working under the young LT and the men I mentioned above and are told to go rescue civilians in a police station in LA and they have only 3 hours to do it because the area is infested with the aliens who seem to be on the ground with no air support so our Airforce is going to totally destroy the area. This is where the Marines get into their first of many battles with the Aliens. Not only do they have to battle these Aliens who are pretty much wrapped in metal armor, but they have to rescue the civilians and do it in 3 hours before the Airforce comes in and bombs the area into the stone age.
As I do in all of my other reviews I won’t go into the plot anymore to take away the fun factor and suspense from the people who intend to go and see the movie. In a strange way it reminds me a little of the popular X Box game Halo. There was some talk at one time of a Halo movie and if they could keep to the story line in Halo and have the action that this movie has, the Halo movie if made could be one of the best Video game movie adaptations ever.
A strong point in Battle LA is even though the action starts from the begining to the end of the movie we see excellent character relations in the movie, you will care what happens to these heroes.
Even though we do not know where the Aliens are from we did find out what they came here for.
The way this movie ends we don’t quite know if there will be a sequel we can only hope and if they do decide to do a sequel they keep and develop the same characters and not branch out into something else like StarShip Troopers did.
Aside from the sci fi violence you could take your family to see this movie. I can’t believe people going to see Red Riding Hood over this movie even though I will go see Red Riding Hood so I can write the review.
I have seen quite a few movies this year so far but this is the first one where at the end of the movie the audience clapped. Yes this movie is that good. Even if you don’t like Sci Fi you have to see this movie, again it is that good.
