I now have several products from the cosmetic company Eyes Lips Face or “ELF” for short.
Out of the 20 or so items that I own, many of them happen to be lip products.
On one of my recent online purchases from ELF, I decided to try out 2 of their “Luscious Liquid Lipsticks”.
The one I have worn the most is in the color “Bark”.
Now, if I would have just heard the name and not seen the swatch on their website, then I would have automatically thought that it would have been a dark brown color of some sort.
I literally think of the bark on a tree and I do not know how that could be flattering on my very fair skin. I also have light hair at the moment and blue grey eyes, so brown lips could make me look like a corpse.
I wanted to venture out of my comfort zone a little bit, and plus these liquid lipsticks are only a buck, so there wasn’t much to lose if I really hated it.
I got my package a few weeks later and was actually pleasantly surprised at the color of Bark that shown through the really nice packaging.
I cannot believe that this only costs $1.
The packaging is really sleek looking. It is skinny and long and is clear for the most part. The company name is clearly marked in silver lettering on the side of the tube. You can see the sponge tip through the clear cap and this seems to snap on pretty well. I have not had a problem with this falling off in my purse, though I always carry a separate makeup bag in my purse though, just in case.
The lipstick is very pretty and is not brown at all. The color is actually a mauve like color with pink tones that has no shimmer or pearl tone to it.
It states on the tube that you need to twist the bottom a few times to have the lipstick go through the sponge tip. I was really scared that I would twist too many times and have this lipstick all over the place. It did take a few seconds for it to be shown on the white sponge, but now I have no problem with it.
The product applies nicely and there is not much of a tint to it at all though. I would not have called this “liquid lipstick” but more of a lip gloss instead. My lips are very pigmented to begin with in a rosy tone, so this lipstick doesn’t show up too well as a mauve color. I really like it though because it seems to fill in any blotchy or uneven color on my lips and makes them look fuller and moisturized. It does look like my lips but better and shinier.
There is a scent to this product that is kind of unappealing though. It is a orange like medicinal smell. I cannot put my finger on what it is supposed to be as it is clearly fragranced with something. I wish they would stick with a vanilla based scent or none at all. The scent does not linger for that long on my lips, but is probably the one and only negative thing I have found with this lipstick so far.
Because I would only wear this product by itself I have not tried it over a regular lipstick, though I could imagine your other base lipstick rubbing off on the applicator tip. This would be a negative for me if I intended to use this as a gloss over something else, but since I do not wish to do this, I cannot say that this is something that would bother me much.
I have worn this color many times since purchasing it and would definitely buy it again.
I do not think that you get a ton of product in the tube though as my tube was not as full as it could have been, but I will not complain because it was so cheap! I cannot believe that this only costs me a dollar.
I do not know if this particular shade is sold in stores, but you can find it online at ELF site, here.
Many times you can find ELF cosmetics at Target, so you might want to check out your local store to see if they carry this line and shade.
Overall, I am very pleased with this lipstick and would definitely get this again.
