Before I go any further let me explain something. This is not the Bad Girlz Club, the Ya-Ya’s, or Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants. We are so much better than that. We are real life women with a real life relationship that has lasted over 30 years, and is still going strong. We are soul sisters.
One summer afternoon in 1986 four teenage girls sprawled out on a twin bed and decided, they were sisters forever. There we were equipped with a fishing knife, a notebook, and raging ideas to make our bond complete. Let me stop for a minute and say “Kids, don’t try this at home.” A poke in the hand and a rub of the palms and “Poof” we were bonded for life. There we were on the bed so proud of ourselves for making such a serious commitment at such a young age. Now what? I can still hear the crickets. Mom walked in and we were busted. I just knew it was over. That was the shortest lived happy moment I’d had in my entire life. She looked at us, saw the notebook and the blood, and laughed. After we realized she was cool with it, she even offered to lend us a hand. “What do we do now?” Well she quickly explained to us that we needed a name. Not just any name, we needed a trademark. Hours went by and all kinds of names were thrown in but nothing that all four of us could agree on. Finally, Mom came into the room with a big smile. “You’re a bunch of bad girls, that’s all, a bunch of bad girls.” She gave us a wink and left. Wait for it. Wait for it. “Plink” The light bulb came on. That is the moment that Bad Girlz Inc. was born.
That was 24 years ago. How little we knew back then about how powerful that promise would become. Now you’re wondering if that was 24 years ago, then how can I say we’ve been friends for over twenty years? Easy, three of us met in kindergarten. The fourth joined us about a year before we made this pact.
We are now ingrained in each other’s lives. I can’t imagine for one minute what my life would be like without these girls. I don’t want to. You learn as you grow. One of the most important lessons of this life is that friendship can carry you through the darkest of hours. I never dreamed that I would be so lucky to have such a support system in my life. I’m going to show you that friendship means sharing everything, not just the good points. Being a sister is not a convenience. You don’t decide when you want to be there for someone. You are just THERE. There are moments in life when you drop everything and answer the call.
I want to share these moments with you. I want to introduce you to four southern belles that have managed to keep it together as it all falls apart. I want to show you what Bad Girlz Inc. means to me. Pour a cup of coffee, Beb. Sit down. I’ll make you laugh and I’ll make you cry. All you have to do is listen.
