One of the rumors now being spread on the Internet is that Wikileaks has in its possession top secret documents that “reveal extraterrestrial contact.” The rumor is based on an interview Julian Assange did with the UK Guardian.
The text of the article shows somewhat less than meets the eye, however:
“Despite facing arrest warrants over allegations of sexual crimes in Sweden, Assange found time to answer a reader’s question about extraterrestrial life.
“Asked whether WikiLeaks had ever received documents relating to UFOs, he said: ‘Many weirdos email us about UFOs or how they discovered that they were the antichrist whilst talking with their ex-wife at a garden party over a pot-plant.’
“However, he said, none had yet satisfied the twin publishing criteria: ‘that the documents not be self-authored; that they be original.'”
That is not exactly a lot to go on, even for a fan of “The X-Files.” But then there is this somewhat cryptic addition:
“But he added: ‘It is worth noting that in yet-to-be-published parts of the cablegate archive there are indeed references to UFOs.'”
One suspects that Assange is having some fun with the media. Certainly some of his followers are engaging in mischief. In the comments section of a website called “Above Top Secret” in a post dated from Dec. 7, a person calling himself “dalan” reported on an effort to spread the rumor of a Wikileaks document containing top secret intelligence about ETs.
“Likely, the documents contain boring s##t about Iran or North Korea… but what if we started and propogated a rumor, utilizing out mass numbers, that several hackers have cracked the file and determined much of it relates to efforts by world governments to cover up alien contact?
“We will say most of the files relate to the Roswell crash, which WAS of extraterrestrial nature. Furthermore, the documents ‘reveal’ reverse engineering programs conducted at Area 51 (refer to it as the Groom Lake Facility) on the alien transport.
“How can we spread this rumor? Google this phrase over and over: ‘Assange file reveals extraterrestrial contact’
“google it over and over to get it to trend. Media will pick up on it. Go to yahoo answers and ask about the rumors, say Hackers from denmark cracked the file.
“Tweet about it, post a facebook update about it.
“Also, if someone can create a mock news article, we would be golden.”
Sure enough, the phrase “Assange file reveals extraterrestrial contact” is rising on the list of search phrases on Google. The rumor is already being spread that Wikileaks has, in effect, one or more X-files in its possession.
This may be just another method for Assange and his followers to cause chaos in the media and draw attention to themselves. Real secrets about CIA informants in the Taliban, the desire of Sunni Saudis to kill Shiite Iranians, or the private opinions of President Obama about his fellow world leaders and their opinion of him, while important and damaging, are rather boring compared to top secret government conspiracies about aliens and UFOs.
Next, no doubt, people will be googling about “Wikileaks reveals who killed Kennedy” or “Wikileaks has the truth about 9/11” or “Wikileaks has Obama’s Birth Certificate” for more fun with the credulous media.
So, in the spirit of all this mischief, here is one of my own: “Wikileaks: We Found a 17th Century spaceship wreck on the Moon.” Google it over and over again and, if it shows up on Google Trends, I’ll see about writing about it too.
