Opened in 2009, there is an incredible selection of local artists’ paintings and skills. In addition, you can find contemporary art from artists around the world, pottery, and vintage objects from Victorian to the Modern Era. The Gabelli Foundation helps sponsor Art Bites, which offers the chance for a short presentation to help guests better understand the purpose of and meaning behind each exhibit. One of the past features has included photographs by Carleton E. Watkins from the nineteenth century of Yosemite Valley. Curator of Education Colin Robertson discussed the images and the tragedies of Mr. Watkins. Another was a presentation of Raphael’s art, with UNR professor of European History Kevin Stevens presenting a verbal tour of life and culture in Italy during Raphael’s time.
Get in touch with your creative side! A free family event is scheduled Sunday, December 26, from noon to 4 p.m.. Using paper, ink, and textured materials, you will get to make a collagraph bird print. Sessions are scheduled at noon, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. There is a limit of 60 participants each hour, due to space.

Open seven days a week, the Co-Op Gallery features art, including oil, watercolor, and mixed media, by twenty local member artists. Monthly features include “meet the artists” receptions, and exhibits of pottery, jewelry, and other artistic callings. Previous events include a fundraiser for the SPCA. There is still time to enjoy the Christmas show from 11 am to 4 pm through December 28, giving visitors an opportunity to purchase a collectible ornament by one of the artists for themselves or as a gift.
