I could hardly wait. Every April Fools I sabotaged the house with as many tricks as I could. Most years I would mix up where everything went and put everything in the wrong cupboards. I would put food where the dishes went and try to think of the strangest places to find an item. One of my favorites was always putting water in an empty orange juice or milk container. Someone would think they are getting a tasty drink when all that comes out is water.
I had gotten a couple of ideas for April Fools online this year. You know ones like saran wrap the toilet bowl, put lotion on the doorknob. I wanted to pick something that would be really annoying, but not get me into too much trouble.
Then I found the perfect April Fools’ joke to play. The prank would be played in the kitchen; the target, my mom. We had one of those kitchen sprayers, yep you know the kind, black spray nozzle attached to the sink water so that you could clean and rinse the dishes easier. When you pressed it in the water from the faucet would shift and go through the hose and out the sprayer. It was aimed right about chest height so that when you turned the water on it had the potential of getting the person’s shirt all wet.
I did not want to depress the sprayer button with an elastic band because I didn’t want any chance that the prank would be found before getting my mom all wet. Instead I chose some clear tape. I carefully taped the hose after my parents had gone to bed for the night. Now all I had to do is wait for the morning and all the fun.
I was still in my room getting ready for school, listening for when my mom would turn the water on and get soaked. It was then that I realized I neglected an important part of planning. I had neglected to make absolutely sure that my intended victim, my mom would be the one to get sprayed.
My dad was about to leave for work when I heard him yell. He had been the first to use the water. I was terrified. My dad was going to be so pissed at me. What happened next was kind of a blur. I made sure to stay in my room and as far away from my father until he left for work.
Finally, I braved the consequences and came to ask my mom what the damage was. My mom said that my dad wasn’t that angry. It was a miracle! I was saved from the wrath of an angry father on his way to work getting soaked. It is not something I would attempt twice.
April Fools’ pranks can be a lot of fun and often everyone enjoys a little silliness in the crazy jokes people try to pull. My word of advice to you is that make sure you plan for all the possible outcomes before you plan your joke because although mine had a happy ending there are some pranks that could ruin the rest of your life.
