‘American Idol’ Top 13 Odds Puts Lauren Alaina on Top, Girls to Win Season 10

by tree pony

So who do want to win “American Idol”? A guy? Casey Abrams? Jacob Lusk? A girl? Lauren Alaina? Pia Toscano? Or do you favor one of the underdogs, like Naima Adedapo, who was saved from elimination by judge Steven Tyler’s Wild Card pick last week? Or are you going with talent and the sympathy card, such as presents itself in the form of James Durbin, noted hard rocker, Tourette’s and Asperger sufferer, and Adam Lambert sound-alike? If you are undecided about who you like most out of the Top 13, you could always — instead of flipping a coin — go with the odds, like those posted at Bodog.com.

At present, Bodog.com lists the Steven Tyler-backed Lauren Alaina as the most likely to win, with odds of 7/2. Alaina won over the judges in Nashville and had Tyler singing her praises when he left the building that day, calling her “The One.” It didn’t hurt that she sung his song, “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.” And she continued to play to the 62-year-old Aerosmith frontman during the group round, getting her partners to sing their song to a stage-center-seated Tyler. She was the first girl named into the Top 10 last week. Still, there is a chance she could lose by getting knocked out of the competition early (or even lose the finale). But if she doesn’t overplay the favoritism thing too much, she just might win it all. Oddsmakers seem to think she will win Season 10.

With Pia Toscano and Casey Abrams tied at 6/1 odds, the second girl in the list puts the girls somewhat favored to win “American Idol” this season. Bodog.com put the girls at 5/7 odds of winning (the guys are at even odds). Given that they also outnumber the guys going into the Top 13, they also have numerical superiority on their side.

The fourth most likely contestant to win the competition this season is self-described chicken-strutting Paul McDonald. He comes in at 7/1 odds.

There is also a tie for fifth place. James Durbin and Jacob Lusk, possibly the two most powerful voices in the competition (except for possibly Casey Abrams and Pia Toscano), present with 8/1 odds.

Who do the odds disfavor or, more accurately, place as having the longest shot of winning “American Idol” Season 10? At present, it seems to be Ashthon Jones, the girl saved by Randy Jackson from elimination with his sole Wild Card choice, and Haley Reinhart. The two girls stand at 35/1 odds. The other two Wild Cards, Stefano Langone (chosen by judge Jennifer Lopez as her Wild Card pick) and Naima Adedapo are also long shots (20/1 and 28/1, respectively).

So, how does your favorite stack up? Are the odds for or against your favorite? Or did the odds help you pick a favorite, perhaps aiming you toward a frontrunner or maybe reinforcing your desire to see an underdog take the win this season?

“American Idol” Season 10 Odds for the Top 13 Contestants

Lauren Alaina 7/2
Pia Toscano 5/1
Casey Abrams 5/1
Paul McDonald 7/1
James Durbin 8/1
Jacob Lusk 8/1
Scotty McCreery 9/1
Thia Megia 9/1
Karen Rodriguez 18/1
Stefano Langone 20/1
Naima Adedapo 28/1
Haley Reinhart 35/1
Ashthon Jones 35/1

“American Idol” will broadcast its Top 13 performance show Wednesday, March 9. Scheduled to appear: Adam Lambert and Diddy-Dirty Money. The results show will air Thursday, with David Cook’s cover of Simple Minds’ “Don’t You Forget About Me” debuting as the farewell song.
