American idols first results show of season 10 was a big one. Instead of getting rid of people a couple at a time they decided to go down to nearly half after just one performance by all of the contestants. The show was two hours long. First the top 10 people, 5 women and 5 men, voted in by America would were revealed. Then the judges decided who of the contestants that were left would get to compete for a wild card slot.
The 10 Voted In By America
The first two guys to get pulled up on the stage were Scotty McCreery and Robbie Rosen, Scotty would be the first one to take one of the stools for those that are moving on. Robbie was sent back to see if he would be called for the wild card round.
Next up were Clint Jun Gamboa, Jovany Baretto, andJordan Dorsey all three of these guys were sent back to the stools.
Then it was time to call up some ladies. The first two ladies to come up to the stage were Pia Toscano and Lauren Alaina, both of these girls were given spots on the couch, which meant they would be moving on.
The next couple of ladies to come up were Ta-Tynisa Wilson and Julie Zorrilla. Both of these ladies were sent back to the stools and would have to hope for a shot at performing for a wild card position.
Ryan then pulled up three more girls: Kendra Chantelle, Ashton Jones, and Karen Rodriguez. Ashton was immediately sent back to the stools. Karen Rodgriguez was sent to the couch and will move on while Kendra was sent back to the stools.
Ryan then called up: Tim Halperin, Jacob Lusk, and Casey Abrams. Casey and Jacob took the next two seats on the couch while Tim was sent back to the stools.
The next group to be called up was Naima Adedapo, Thia Megia, and Lauren Turner. Naima, and Lauren were sent back to the stools while Thia Megia took one of the other seats on the couch with the other contestants who would move on.
Ryan then brought up Brent Lowentstern and Paul McDonald. Paul McDonald would move on while Brent was sent back to the stools.
The last two girls competing for the final spot were Haley Reinhart and Rachel Zevita. Haley Reinhart took the last spot for the ladies, and Rachel Zevita went back tot he stools.
The final two people of the evening to find out if they made America’s top 10 were James Durbin and Stefano Langone. James Durbin would be the last person chosen by America to move on and Stefano went back to the stools.
Wild Card Competition
After America’s top 10 were revealed the judges then decided that they would pull up 6 contestants from the stools to sing for their life in order to get a wild card spot. The first one they brought up was Ashton Jones. She sang, “And I am Telling You.” You could tell she really wanted this, she put her all in to it, although sometimes she was just kind of screaming, and singing to the back of the stage, but her desire was certainly evident.
The next person to sing for a wild card spot was Stefano Langone, he sang, “I Need You Now.” This was a really good performance. I have liked Stefano all along so I am glad he came out swinging.
The judges then called up Kendra Chantelle to take her chance at a wild card spot. She sang, “Georgia.” She started off in a very low range, which was odd, but then she picked it up and powered through the rest of the song.
Next to get an opportunity to stay was Jovany Baretto. Jovany sang “Angel”. I have nothing bad to say about this performance. It was beautiful, and it was powerful.
The judges then gave Naima Adedapo a shot. She sang, “For All We Know.” She sang really nicely. It is a really old fashioned sounding song, but here was nothing wrong with the way she sang it. She showed she has a nice soft side to her voice, but can pull out some power when needed.
The last person given a chance to stay was Robbie Rosen. Robbie sang Sorry seams to be the hardest word. Like the other two guys before him Robbie sang from the heart. He gave a really good solid performance.
At this point my husband and I were both thinking that the guys were just incredible and thought they might just take all three guys and send the girls packing, but that was not the case. The judges decided that Ashton Jones, Naima Adepado, and Stefano Langone would move on.
Who Got Robbed
This is purely my opinion but in I believe that Clint Jan Gamboa and Lauren turner were robbed. I think hat Lauren was one of the best girls she had a good stage presence and showed great range when she sang. I thought she at least deserved a shot at performing for a wild card spot.
The biggest disappointment of the night for me was that Clint Jan Gamboa did not get a chance to sing for a wild card spot. His voice is amazing. When Ryan asked the judges who would get the last spot to try for a wild card spot, there were people in the audience screaming “Clint!” I think he suffered from a bad song choice and being first on the day he competed. He deserved a second chance.
Robbie and Jovany also kind of got ripped off. Since the judges had the power to put in as many people as they wanted if I had been them I would have put these two guys in after the awesome performances they gave.
As I said though this is just my opinion.
There is no doubt that this is a solid top 13. I am looking forward to hearing all of these people sing some more and I also wish those who didn’t make it all the best. They are all very talented.
