Thursday night on “American Idol” it was time for the all-important Hollywood Week, where judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez had to tell some “Idol” hopefuls that it was the end of the road for them. Yes, it was dream crushing time, and who better to do it than the seasoned Dawg, who simply had no time for desperate pleas and tears.
But for some other familiar faces, it was good news as they were moved on to the next round of the competition. So who moved on? And who was sent home?
The contestants got a taste of what it will be like if they make it on to the later rounds of the show. That is, a game of suspense as they were told to stand in one group after they sang and wonder if their group was getting the ax.
Brett Loewenstern, from the New Orleans auditions, beat the odds again with his version of The Beatles’ “Let It Be.” The judges moved both him and contestant Rachel Zevita on to the next round.
Also headed for more Hollywood were Thia Megia and Casey Abrams.
But perky, sugary-sweet teen Victoria Huggins was sent home. You remember Victoria, the smiley girl who the judges dubbed “Most personality on ‘Idol’ ever.“
“Yes’s” also went to San Francisco auditioner James Durbin as well as Paris Tassin and Lauren Alaina. But it was a stormy day for Stormi Henley, who was told goodbye.
Next up, Chris Medina, the young man who is caring for his disabled fiancé, got the green light to move forward.
Hollie Cavanaugh, who broke down in tears during her original audition and almost got the ax from Randy Jackson, shined this time around. And 15-year old powerhouse Jacee Badeaux moved on as did Robbie Rosen. But Steve Beghun was sent home, as were Sarah Sellers and Heidi Kazam.
Lovebirds Nick Fink and his girlfriend Jacqueline Dunford were split apart- Jacqueline made it through and Nick was sent home. But not without a final desperate plea to the judges (it didn’t work.)
The other “couple” of the group- a couple who is actually no longer a couple- Rob Bolin and Chelsee Oaks both made it through.
Deep-voiced country boy Scotty McGreery performed a re-do of his audition song and the judges loved it once again.
Also making it through to the next round was Jackie Wilson, Jerome Bell, Tiffany Rios, Clint Jun Gamboa, Julie Zorilla, Naima Adedapo, Stefano Langone, Molly Dewolf Swensen, the Guiterrez brothers, Emily Anne Reed and Ashley Sullivan.
But the biggest shock of the night was the fate of the highly talented Travis Orlando. A fan favorite from the New Jersey auditions, Orlando was sent home this round.
Next week: It’s time for the group Hollywood round- which usually makes for some creative differences!
You can catch the next episode of “American Idol” on Wednesday, February 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
